not in my experience, my mom didn’t convert with one, but it’s an old movement and the World Union has many affiliated branches, so it wouldn’t surprise me that much if there are some
historically, the decision to break away from talmudic jurisprudential practices was a big part of RJ theology

well I meant not belonging to kehilla that operates a beit din
That’s not really an accurate description of either but this isn’t a good forum for the theological arguments
😂 there’s some nuance that this medium isn’t great for capturing, but that’s hilariously close enough for me to basically agree
if it suits you to pretend that all contemporaryJewish theology views the Talmud in a substantially similar way, such that you can see only small radical outliers, that’s up to you
hence my distinction between recognizing it and following it, which you can choose to rephrase if you prefer
if you go just by demographics, there are a lot of people who consider themselves religious Jews (myself among them) who aren’t part of a kehilla that has a beit din & there’s a theological history to that reality
I’m not; the Rabbinerversammlungen specifically discussed in great detail why it mattered to them to no longer engage with talmudic legal practice
recognize isn’t the same as follow and generations of Reform Jews have had theological arguments for why they don’t follow it (generally) since the 1840s (minimum)
A little black folding table with some plants, notably Packera aurea, and a sign that says "free plants."
Bare root raspberry plants in a black tray with a sign that says "black raspberry," though some of the plants are red raspberries.
Central MD people, anyone want some impulse raspberries (black and/or red) or Packera aurea before it gets cold tonight? 🌱 #nativeplants

Hoary Cress, Lepidium draba, at Hayling Island today. Also frequent along my local road verges. #WildflowerHour #CabbageFamily
The Cornish endemic Western Ramping-fumitory (Fumaria occidentalis) is my contribution to this week's #wildflowerhour. This colony is probably the best known in the country, having grown on a car park edge on the Lizard for decades!
Sea Radish, Raphanus raphanistrum subsp. maritimus, in both yellow and white, at Sinah Common, Hayling Island today. #WildflowerHour #CabbageFamily
I didn’t have much time for botany this week but I did spot 4 for the #cabbagechallenge: Garlic Mustard, Wavy Bittercress, Cuckoo Flower and Hoary Cress. All seen on roadside verges in North Chailey, East Sussex #wildflowerhour
Unexpected excitement on the way to the pub today while visiting friends in Bristol - a single pristine Green-winged Orchid on an unmown patch of modified grassland lawn in urban Easton. No records on the map and otherwise not even a Cowslip there! #WildflowerHour

Just as a reminder if you’ve just finished a jar of pickles you can marinate chicken or duck with it and it’s great.
A complex Stereum lobatum rosette grows from the top of a fallen log like a polished agate slice. Alternative bands of orange, green, yellow and white radiated from its three growth centers. All photos by me
Here is a nice mushroom
“In China bats have long been considered lucky creatures because the written symbol for bat has the same pronunciation as that for happiness. Consequently, bats are frequently featured in textile patterns and porcelain designs in both China and Japan. Since the perfection of the full moon is also viewed as an auspicious occurrence, the combination of a bat and the moon suggests exponential happiness.” color woodblock print of a black bat flying in front of a full moon

de Blasio had an extremely baby steps commission and plan for consolidating commercial solid waste contracting (and moving the oversight out from under the waterfront commission iirc) but took until 2019 to issue a plan, presumably DOA
and it’s primarily commercial waste, which NYC Department of Sanitation doesn’t handle, due to even longer historical issues
and and it has to do with sidewalk liability, which the city disposed itself of the 1970s, because of the cost of defending slip & falls
you haven’t looked along Ocean Ave yet
