A few Green-winged Orchid (Anacamptis morio) and Cuckoo flower (Cardamine pratensis) slowly emerging at @bbowt.bsky.social's Bernwood Meadows, though so far most are only a couple of centimetres high. Hopefully there'll be many more in a week or so!

Chalkland ecology. I went to look for Hairy violet, Viola hirta, at Coney Banks, Chatham. Abundant in area of open grassland that is mown once each autumn; patches of Dog Violet here too. Early Dog Violet by more shaded paths. I did not find Sweet Violet. Early for #WildflowerHour #Violaceae #Kent

Black and yellow caterpillar of Scarlet Tiger moth
Found a magnificent stand of Caucasian Comfrey (new to VC32) yesterday while surveying a churchyard in Etton, its clear blue flowers attracting a whole range of pollinators. The caterpillar of a Scarlet Tiger moth was also enjoying the bristly leaves!

Great display of Snake's-head Fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris) at Iffley Meadows in Oxford at the moment. Listed as Vulnerable on the Vascular Plant Red Data List for GB, this is one of only around 30 sites in the UK where they grow wild.

Patch of wild garlic with white flowers and fairly large leaves.
Brown barefoot walking boots with paler soles. Amy has buff-ish coloured trousers and one grey strap from the rucksack. The ground has many stones (not rocks or boulders I think) but larger than little gravel which makes the ground very uneven.
Main reason I like the term 'birder' (rather than 'birdwatcher') is that I use many senses - often hearing before seeing etc - and the scents! Today's early walk smelt of garlic 😋 (Wild Garlic) #UKbirding #WildflowerHour
