hawking a line of branded Mountain Goats smart glasses. no matter where you look things look a little bleaker and also the wearer cannot remove the glasses once worn. I’m disrupting this sector

your review for:
The Remembered Soldier by
Anjet Daanje

4.75 *

The Remembered Soldier reads like slow cinema in the vein of Jeanne Dielman, entrenching you in the beautiful mundanity of married life with the haunting spectres of war and lies lurking around the corner. The slow pace meant I was reading this for two weeks. Two weeks of feeling the roller coaster of emotions this couple goes on. Of sitting in their photography shop which I can see in my head so so vividly. Of watching nightmares of war dance over their heads as they slept. The dialogue-free writing style really helped me get into the perspective of a veteran with amnesia. It

felt like I was standing torso-deep in a choppy sea, waiting for a wave too big for me to remain upright. And just like its fellow Belgian artwork Jeanne Dielman, there is a point where the mundanity, which has stayed strong despite all the forces haunting it, finally cracks and lets free a truth that I didn't see coming. One that had me reading the last ~140 pages of this book in a single day. Despite not making the shortlist for this years International Booker Prize, The Remembered Soldier is well worth a read, to be transported into a mind and a marriage unmoored, desperately searching for anchor.

Finished The Remembered Soldier by Anjet Daanje this past weekend. Slow read, but so rewarding. About a soldier with amnesia post WWI in Flanders, whose wife(?) picks him up from the asylum. They navigate marriage while he has no memories. Review below.

I feel such immense joy every time a lost film is found. Silent films feel miraculous to me. Someone is making me laugh across an ocean of time over a century across. It makes me feel so connected to humanity.

Yes, collectively it's called the "Beasts of Burden Suite." It's six games. Donkey Kong is the flagship. Then Reindeer Kong. Hm? Yes, not actually a reindeer. Then Mule Kong, then Lllama Kong. Also monkeys, yes. Then Bactrian Camel Kong. That's correct, also monkey. Then Elephant Kong. Yes I'll hold

We’ve all got something that makes our mind go wild. I also think the main problem is unconditional stanning. You can Stan things but you’ve got to let them go too.

When you get the reputation of being the guy with the encouraging words on New Year's Eve, it can start to come through as a little pressure -- what if the situation on the ground is worse than usual? what if people are more scared than they usually are, and with cause? what use are good vibes then?

no it’s not just weapons and knowing how to fight, there’s more to it than that. really there’s a whole world of warcraft

the shit I care least in the whole world about is whether the story about the Earl of Sandwich is true. yes it fucking was. my man was playing cards and eating meat with his hands and then he said hold up check this out. you won't believe this shit. bring me some fucking bread & hold onto your hats

it's me. the surprise character in Avengers Doomsday is John Darnielle from the Mountain Goats. I murder half the Avengers with my sick rhymes but you have to see the movie to find out which ones

This accounts for just under half of the shortlisted short films. It’s not everything but this will give you a good start! As nominations and awards approached more will likely become available. I hope you have fun exploring these films like I will!

I do own Seven Samurai. Also Seven Chances, One Week, and Once. I’ve been mostly buying from boutique labels and secondhand and I don’t have much space. Do I need to specifically seek out films that start with numbers?

That use the digit rather than the number written out, yes. I also own Three Ages, Number Seventeen, and the Three Colors Trilogy.
