Sticker table restocked this morning!
Good morning, Day 2! @robin.berjon.com will be sharing Matadisco, a system for publishing metadata for open data at 4:40. Come find him or @mosh.bsky.social to talk open data discovery, DASL.ing, or webtil.es! #atmosphereconf
Good morning #ATmosphereConf! Jazzed for today's 10am talk on Feature / Product / Business, where I'll cover my personal stories as a builder, founder, and funder, and some frameworks and thought for building an enduring ATmosphere.
Important piece of multi-protocol support in browsers!
Thanks to much work from Javi, and funding from @ipfs.tech.
HEY NOW, settle down - a ways to go:
- can only redirect to URLs/paths
- no Safari
- off by default in Chrome (for now)
- only allow-listed schemes unprefixed
Step by step...
Two blog posts, if you want to read more:
Why we built this: ipfsfoundation.org/matadisco-ca...
Technical explainer: vmx.cx/cgi-bin/blog...
Want to help? We're collaborating with IIIF 3D and satellite imagery projects now, and want to chat with anyone working in open data (science or otherwise).
This week @vmx.cx will be giving a talk at FOSSGIS Göttingen, and @robin.berjon.com at @atmosphereconf.org. Come find us or send a message!
Matadisco uses ATProto to let anyone publish dataset records and build domain-specific discovery portals.
Many research orgs already use IPFS to store and verify datasets reliably. Matadisco makes them findable and useful.
🪩 Introducing matadisco.org! — a way to discover open datasets via #atproto that doesn't depend on any single institution staying online. 🕺🏼
We have more public data than ever (satellite imagery, climate models, genomic sequences), but finding it is still painfully hard.
Heading to #FOSSGIS in Gottingen? See you at @vmx.cx's talk introducing matadisco.org, a new system for resilient, public data discovery.
If you've noticed @ipfs.tech's upload/publish performance is so much faster lately, wonder no more! ProbeLab's Optimistic Provide is finally in production and it's working like a charm! Check how and why at: probelab.io/blog/optimis...
Here's how big the improvement has been!
Already supported across a lot of IPFS tooling:
Go: kubo 0.40, boxo 0.37, go-ipfs-cmds 0.16
JS: helia/unixfs 7.0.3, ipfs-unixfs-importer 16.1.1
Full spec + parameter tables 👉 specs.ipfs.tech/ipips/ipip-0499
IPIP-0499 fixes this with 2 named profiles. In addition to deterministic CIDs, we also get:
⚡ Faster verification (compare CIDs directly, no need to fetch underlying data)
🌿 Better performance (shallower DAG trees, faster seeks, fewer DHT announcements)
Content-addressing promised consistent, reproducible CIDs for identical data, but encoding parameters got in the way.
Uploading the same file with Kubo, Helia, or Singularity could produce 3 different CIDs because each one used different chunking, DAG width, and HAMT settings.
A small but meaningful update: IPIP-0499 is now merged into the IPFS spec! We're introducing configuration profiles for CIDs. 🧩 🧵
love to see it 🚴♀️💨
Excited to announce our collaboration with @ipfs.tech and https://dasl.ing on two new standards for the next thousand years of decentralized social video: S2PA and MUXL!
Together they give us a standard for self-certifying and content-addressable media in the decentralized social ecosystem.
Holy shit @iame.li and @stream.place are pullling C2PA into the atmosphere together with @ipfs.tech. I am am kinda gobsmacked to see this suddenly pop up as a real thing that Eli's making.
@reckless.bsky.social and Jess Weatherbed talked about the problems w/ C2PA www.theverge.com/podcast/8740...
The IPFS white paper is one of the first paper club read throughs I hosted. Very readable!
Led me down the content addressing rabbit hole. So useful! Content that you can get from any random place and still trust.
Nick’s deep dive on CIDs is a lot, but gets you all the background you need.
Instead of only Served and Blocked requests, we now also present the percentage of Badbits requests, which were previously grouped under Blocked. We also show the number of requests that were Redirected.

Great DASLing Group bimonthly today! Lots of good things in motion, including:
- A Perceptual Fingerprint (PFP) spec github.com/darobin/dasl...
- A proposed storage layout spec github.com/darobin/dasl...
- A webtil.es demo & overview
To join the next one(s): luma.com/cid-congress
we're at #fosdem!
ATCUTE MENTIONED ATCUTE MENTIONED
🍭🐰(is that a cute enough?) ftw
Last talk for me at #FOSDEM - I have a flight back home to catch! This one is about @ipfs.tech’s DASL by @robin.berjon.com.
Lots of bright colors! Shiny! ✨
#FOSDEM26 #FOSDEM2026
A very nice talk about small but mighty CID-based specs, 15:15 UTC in Building A (streaming link in thread).
Good morning #FOSDEM! I'll be kicking off in the Decentralized Internet & Privacy devroom @ 9:05a today with tales of @ipfs.tech and our ♥️/👿 affair with web browsers. fosdem.org/2026/schedul...
Nice roundup of status, performance, & trends on the public IPFS network.
