Community Pharmacy England

Q

Pharmacy teams have reported major issues to us over the last two days related to large numbers of patients booking COVID-19 vaccinations via the National Booking System (NBS) who are not eligible for the vaccine this winter.

We are working with NHS England to try to address this unacceptable situation and to get more NHS communications issued to help people understand whether they are eligible for the vaccine.

In the meantime, we have created three posters that pharmacy teams can use to help explain about vaccine eligibility this winter:

The MILLIONS of people who were denied vaccines are suddenly realising.

@rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social this was a terrible idea.

Not only will the NHS struggle this autumn / winter, but people will suffer and die unnecessarily.

It isn't too late for a U-turn!

Labour MP Richard Burgon raises looming welfare cuts during PMQs, criticising the “easy option” of cutting benefits for the poor and vulnerable:

“So instead of cutting benefits for disabled people wouldn’t the moral thing to do…introduce a wealth tax on the very wealthiest people in our society”

Check this out — American stocks were on par with global stocks up until late January — and have now dropped terribly since then

Gosh I wonder what happened in late January?

CVF are deeply saddened by the heartbreaking news of the loss of Ondine Sherwood, co-founder of Long Covid SOS, a fierce advocate and a true force for good.

Her dedication to protecting health will not be forgotten.

David Oliver: Losing too many NHS hospital beds has been an act of avoidable self-sabotage with predictable consequences In recent decades we’ve surely lost too many general and acute hospital beds in the UK, without creating sufficient alternative capacity outside hospital. My latest @bmj.com piece . Having spent much of Tuesday in a severely overcrowded ED with corridor/waiting room care galore & much of Monday on a ward unable to discharge patients waiting for community services that they absolutely *do* need - policy meets real life.

Now would be a good time to protect workers & children, elders & vulnerable members of our communities from preventable airborne infections like #Flu & #Covid

A win:win for public health & pandemic planning.

✅ Clean indoor air
✅ Informed public messaging
✅ Compassion

❌ Ignorant hubris

Everything to know about bird flu as restrictions put in place The strain confirmed in the UK has been known to infect humans in the past

H5N1 is airborne and @uklabour.bsky.social are still ignoring the guidance from @WHO from August for long COVID, which is to currently mask around others. Where is the prevention? Why haven’t you rolled out clean air?

At some point #BirdFlu will crack the 1-step evolutionary obstacle to becoming an airborne human virus & potentially the next pandemic. Or recombine with a human virus in farmed pigs or in a human host & achieve the same outcome. Upgrading indoor air quality standards would be a sensible precaution.

What we are witnessing is the normalisation of extremism. If we allow the right to pretend that the German AFD is just another conservative party... or that Donald Trump is just another president... or that Elon Musk was just getting carried away with that salute are on a distinctly dangerous path.

Don’t underestimate the impact you’re making when you choose to wear a mask.

You’re protecting your health & the health of your community. You’re helping ease the burden on our healthcare system.

You’re standing in solidarity with disabled people & telling the government that no one is expendable

It should matter to @uklabour.bsky.social that clinically vulnerable children have been treated unequally by the government and continue to be treated so.

What’s worse is that even when it’s brought to their attention again and again, zero action or help.

Important context is required:

NOT offering vaccines to Clinically Vulnerable children and those in CV families had a huge impact on health, mental health, socially, and educationally.

The only thing we learn from history is that we don't learn from history.

And the fastest way to 'achieve' this, is not to teach it.

Wes Streeting is tweeting today about children’s health and well being and yet he hasn’t once listened to parents of clinically vulnerable children on #COVID. It’s not just enough to say you care as a party about all children. You have to actively show you are leaving none behind.
