Couldn’t help myself - primed, painted and installed. Might touch up later.

Finished adding the fiddly bits to the new Constitution stern, replacing the kit part, which only dates to 1870. It’s my best approximation of the Hull model, which represents when the ship fought the Guerriere in 1812. Next step is black paint, then pick out the details in color. #HistScaleModels

I built this subject in 1:72 a couple of years ago - really like the way the dark green went on on yours!

Thanks. It was a lot of fun.

It’s great. But I am straining to avoid tossing in a sky blue just for the looks.

YES IT DOES! Not quite sure what I’m doing with that.

It was practically swallowed up in late 1800s. While a big part of the main plaza still has a courthouse encroaching on it the current redo is preserving as much of the original mission footprint as they can. The chapel - which is what everyone thinks of - was always tucked away in a corner.

I watched a Tank Museum documentary on this and now I want it. Bad!

Back on the wagon for #buildthestash ! Hit four hobby stores and all I got was some 1/700 helicopters, which do not count. Neither does paint. Or sheet rod or tube plastic. Have I mentioned the Alamo is looking good these days with its new lunette and relief models? #histscalemodels

The good part about having to drive back from a hearing at San Antonio’s beautiful new federal courthouse was that I got to visit 3 great hobby stores looking for model kits - Dibble’s, Hill Country Hobby and the sublime The Model Box in Boerne. Highly recommend all three! #histscalemodels

I should quit buying books. The latest book on Constitution noted there were actually 3 carronades / side forward, plus the 24 pounder chase guns. So I scratched up a pair of carronade carriages and mounted a pair of the kit barrels - will hide the jury-rigged barrels elsewhere. #HistScaleModels

Haven’t seen any yet but will definitely be on the lookout. I’ve built a Flyhawk SBD in 1/72 and I think it was the best kit I’ve ever seen - great balance as you say. The MiniArt was a fantastic reproduction, but not a fun build. Had way more fun with an old Hasegawa IV/70 in polka dots.

Oh man - this looks rode hard and put up wet by a drunk paint crew. Beautiful work!

Replacing Vallejo Desert Yellow which matches the FS number with lighter Sand Yellow, which is closer to the swatch and to color period photos.

Researching the complex “Caunter” paint scheme for a Stuart light tank in the British 8th Army that at 1/72 will be the size of a matchbox. Lucked out and the paints I need are ones I already have. Wanted to do it at Guadalcanal but could not get a reliable source for markings. #HistScaleModels

It really has helped motivate me to get things done. I have 13 or 14 completed so far this year, and might still be above water, but this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up!

I’m not trying to win contests. I just don’t want something the size of a matchbox to make me miserable. I ❤️ late 90s Hasegawa (but not their decals).

Exactly! I’m looking forward to a small winter diorama. And the Wespe is just a self education project. I’ve discovered I really dislike state of the art 1/72 armor (MiniArt StuG) because it’s so detailed it’s very difficult to build. A late 90s type kit is a positive to me.

the funny thing about sending jd vance out to do sensitive diplomatic negotiations is he has literally no experience. like, none whatsoever. he doesn't even have related experience in lawmaking or some executive role.

Trump seems to be going with the strategy of “Iran’s not closing the Strait of Hormuz. I’M closing the Strait of Hormuz!”

It remains painfully obvious how utterly desperate and lost Trump is as he flails wildly about, unable to control the absolute catastrophe he created for no reason whatsoever.

I am working on it, but I am in danger of fixating on getting it down at the expense of building the really good stuff I have that’s just more than a weekend project.

I was really glad I stopped by because the store is in a new smaller location and I almost didn’t because I assumed they would not have anything different. Very glad to be wrong!

The hobby store got about two dozen partially built kits still in boxes and they were free for the taking. Neither of these had actually been started. The figures on the Nebelwerfer look really good.

Absolutely. That sounds like a great neighborhood to me.

I think this is my official walk of shame away from the high ideals of #BuildtheStash ! putteringinthestudy.com/2026/04/11/m.... #HistScaleModels.

Finished the third of my Rivercon builds this weekend, a 1/72 Hasegawa 88mm artillery piece with crew. First time I've made a diorama or used figures (other than pilots and yes, FDR).

Think this one is done. Post up later. Never done figures or a diorama, but learned a few things. The low profile base is to make the sight line work on the armor shelf. #histscalemodels
