Great day fieldwalking with the Thornborough Archaeology Group. It's very zen; trundling through a field looking for flint while the sun warms your back and the birds sing to one another. Even better when you find some, however small. Our ancestors were here. Walking in the sun, birds tweeting...

My photo shows a frontal view of a buff-coloured Minoan pottery jug with a dark-red, stylised octopus painted beneath the dark red pouring spout. The jug has a rounded body with very short neck with out-turned rim, the body tapers downwards to a slightly turned out flat base also painted red. On each shoulder there’s a small chunky loop handle. The octopus is stylised and looks cartoon-like with a vertical dumbbell shaped body, with two large circular eyes with central red dots staring out at the viewer. From the top of the head emerge eight suckered arms. Four arms hang symmetrically downwards on each side of the body, writhing and curling at the tip. There is a similar red octopus on each side of the jug not shown in my photo.

A black and white photo of a scottish river cascading white water over a rocky waterfall. The river is surrounded by wintry looking trees, moorland and a mountain rising into clouds in the background.

Some positive news: "A partnership of charities, landowners and businesses has joined together to save and repair a connected area of blanket bog – among the world's rarest habitats – across three neighbouring and diverse landholdings."

How deep do roots go? If you are a beech, not very!

Cambridgeshire MP to introduce bill to protect UK chalk streams The 10-minute bill is set to go before Parliament on 25 February.

I co-sponsored this bill which aims to give chalk streams UNESCO world heritage status. These important habitats, 85% of which are in the UK, are at risk of drying out. Let’s protect the homes of plants, fish and aquatic mammals🌱🐠🦦

Watching Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. A good bit of escapism. Fun to see Big Jack Burton himself (Kurt Russell) as well.

I was looking through some long forgotten images I had on a USB flash drive. They say that fly-posting is a modern day problem! Boar Lane in Leeds in 1869. Image Leeds Libraries.

Currently watching: Kingdom of the Spiders on Now/HBO Max. William Shatner, Marauding Tarantulas, Jaunty Country Music. Perfect Saturday night viewing... I do love a good old creature invasion movie... I think we need more ant armies to be honest...

Back from lunar radio silence and smiling like two aliens who absolutely body‑snatched the originals. Classic invasion energy...I've seen Men In Black.
