#StandingStoneSunday throwback to 2016 and my 2 devils at the Devil's stone or Devil's Chair #Avebury. One of the 2 Southern entrance stones to the Great Circle. So called due to the natural ledge or seat formed within the megalith.

Staying in #Avebury: the church had an eerie reputation during the 70s & 80s. A Mrs Wilkinson reported 'a feeling of sheer malevolence and evil' near the altar. Author Graham McEwan felt a 'hostile atmosphere' and said some of his photo gear failed to work inside the church.

King Sill is said to be seen riding his horse around Silbury on moonlit nights.

There is also a headless man, seen on top of the hill. No one knows who he may be and why he is without his head! 👻

Among the stones at Avebury, a sheep contentedly rubs its ear against one of the small concrete pillars which show the site of a missing megalith. Taken by me on a grey early morning in 2006.

It's good to see at least somebody enjoys the little concrete pillars among the stones at Avebury. Great for a bit of a scratch.

Last summer I went to the Chalklander festival in Avebury celebrating the ancient chalk landscape. I even joined the procession around the stones.
