Becoming unhooked from reality is the most dangerous thing you can do, short of immediately suicidal acts.
You will become controlled by others fantasies. You will be obsessed with fake fears and ignore actual danger.
It is slow suicide to ignore evidence.

Fundamentally, it does not matter what "we" say.
When will "they" finally say:
He doesn't care about us. He never cared about us. He only cares about himself and the ultra-wealthy.
Minds are very hard to change, once set upon a path. When the path becomes broken glass, people look at their feet.

So sorry. The stories are horrendous. Hope you & yours are safe and can rebuild.

You should not admit to such misadventures with bands of questionable morals.

Health insurers have been parasites on the US economy for decades. They feed on the finances of the sick and desperate, more and more each year.

Shame no longer works as a motivator.

Apparently fear still has some effect.

Randolph the Rude-Nosed Reindeer
Had a most disgusting trick
And if you saw him do it
It would make you feel quite sick
None of the other reindeer
Wanted him to pull that stunt
That’s why they made poor Randolph
Always be the one in front!

Y’welcome & Happy Holidaze

It is nearly impossible to express a meaningful, philosophical thought in the restrictive 300-character envelope of a Bloot. Could we please expand to 310 characters to make this possible?

Posts here are not called tweets. What do we call them on bsky? Bleets? Skeets? Bloots?

That pretty much defines my relationship with AI thus far

I got a couple hours free after thanksgiving- just lmk how to fix it. I’m an engineer. It’s a few pounds of wet matter, how much could really be wrong?

How do we improve it? I’m kind of a fan of rational thought, but it doesn’t seem to be winning the race

Expect all of that to be 25% higher in cost.
Seeing those bills go down, are we?

Backwards reasoning -“reasoning” from emotionally chosen beliefs back to the cherry-picked evidence that supports them - is the root of much evil in this world. Fix this, and many things fix themselves.

Students have been trained to provide results - things - rather than motivated to build skills. As such, chatGPT gives them an easy way to deliver. Students should use AI tools, but appropriately: to find references, to crunch data, to help them to find their own insights/innovations.

Interesting take. Yes much of AI is hype. But saying that students have no need to learn those skills may be short sighted. AI is a permanent change to the technology landscape. AI can't be seen as just an enemy by educators (even though students may be using it inappropriately).

I am thinking we may be setting a dangerous president here.

Well, she's rich and she knows wrestling. How could we expect someone more qualified than that...?

It seems clear that we are entering the Age Of The Unchecked AI-Driven Billionaires. Those who wish for power above all will be granted their dearest wish. Some of us would prefer peace and prosperity to power. And some think - foolishly - that the first group will offer that to the second.

Just returning from #disney #wdw #epcot - wonderful family experience & mind bending rides. But has anyone else noticed the homogenization of the retail shops? Every shop has the same Disney-branded stuff. Very few unique, original finds. And no “necessities” like pharmacy. Not a good trend, Dis.
