4. One of the great beauties of the human rights framework is that it creates space for the sharing of evidence. We can learn from global experience, and share ours with the world - like with the work on the proposed Optional Protocol to the UNCRC which will include Early Childhood Education.

3. Elevate Great’s approach of identifying key issues, incubating solutions to get them to scale, and influencing duty bearers to adopt new approaches is based on human rights.
2. The positive obligations on the state require preventative action. This is essential for work on issues affecting younger children like poverty, housing, indoor air quality, and care.
Starting #HumanRightsDay speaking with Dr Sophie Flemig about why human rights and a children’s rights based approach is integral to the work of Elevate Great.
The rights framework is evidence based, and provides mechanisms for accountability against normative standards.
Early start for the Children's Rights and the Law Conference at Southern Cross University in Australia.
Strong themes - the need for a children's rights based approach which is entrenched in law and develops community based support for children and families.

I’m delighted to be back in Belfast for the third Incorporation Conversation with Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People and Queen's University Belfast.
This time we are focusing on faith groups and the important role they play in promoting children’s rights.
An inclusive system is not a privilege, it’s a right!
The #TurinDeclaration calls for strong, inclusive care systems that empower families & carers
EU & national leaders need to:
🟠Deliver an EU Care Deal
🟠Advance the EU Disability Strategy
🟠Strengthen the Child Guarantee

New statement on Gaza from Eurochild:
eurochild.org/news/trapped...
What we are witnessing is not only a humanitarian catastrophe but also a profound test of international law and moral consistency.
Now is the moment to step up: show consistency, embody courage, demand accountability.
Important intervention from the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children (ENOC) calling on the EU and Member States to take urgent action to support children who are still trapped in Gaza despite positive family reunification decisions issued by Member States.

Great to see the coverage from last week’s session of the Cyprus 🇨🇾 Children’s Parliament, supported by Foni.
3. - The power of community based solutions.
Lots more thoughts, but most importantly, huge thanks to RCA TRUST and all of the other organisers (including the great staff at Glasgow City Chambers and the Council for its sponsorship), speakers and delegates.
2. - The expertise, passion, and commitment of the professional communities working to combat gambling harm and support recovery.
- The need for a rights based approach as a foundation for systemic change in a rapidly changing environment.
Lots of reflections from the fantastic Glasgow Gambling Harms Summit today #glasgowGHS25
The most important of which are:
- The power of lived experience and the need to reflect the diversity of it in every aspect of decision making.
A huge pleasure to give a keynote address
on Gambling Harm as a Human Rights Issue: Standing Strong for Health, Dignity, and Recovery.
It’s impressive to see such an incredible group of lived experience, practitioners, policymakers, academics, and campaigners.

Israeli attacks kill dozens more Palestinians in Gaza City alone as the death toll surges during its ground invasion.
Looking out over the city of Limosol in the foreground to the sun and Mediterranean Sea in the background. The photo looks South East towards Gaza in the morning sun.
I’m in Cyprus to meet with children from across the Mediterranean to discuss important issues around mental health and AI, but it’s impossible not to think about the fact that genocide is happening just a few hundred miles away.

I’m supporting calls to go further - full incorporation of UNCRC & an Independent Children’s Rights Institution

This #worldhumanitarianday comes at a time where we are seeing a huge increase in killing, injuring, and detaining aid workers. #ActForHumanity calls on the public to stand with humanitarians, demand protection and support the lifelines they provide. www.unocha.org/news/world-h...
19 August is #WorldHumanitarianDay.
Last year, we urged leaders to stop the killing of aid workers.
They listened – then looked away.
This year, we sound the alarm with sharper urgency:
❗ Protect humanitarians.
❗ Respect the rules of war.
❗ End impunity.
#ActForHumanity
Dark blue background with bold yellow and white text. The text reads: “Saving lives should not cost lives. Humanitarian aid workers are #NotATarget.” At the bottom left is the European Union logo with the yellow stars on a blue flag and the words “European Union.”
2024 was the deadliest year on record for humanitarian workers.
2025 is on track to be even worse.
Their work, meant to save lives, is under attack.
On #WorldHumanitarianDay, the EU reiterates its steadfast support for humanitarian aid – a beacon of hope for those who suffer.

This a huge loss. Sir George was a great politician, but also an incredible humanitarian. Always generous with his advice and expertise on geopolitics and international systems, and passionate about using his knowledge and skill to deliver change.
He will be missed.

📰 We are delighted to launch The Strasbourg Bulletin, a new series of articles exploring the work of the Council of Europe, its relationship with the UK, and how it shapes the protection of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law across Europe 🌍
We either act now, or pay a higher price later! As co-chair of the EU Alliance for #InvestinginChildren we co-signed a joint letter to Presidents von der Leyen, Metsola & Costa urging them to prioritise the fight against #childpoverty in the next #EUbudget!

#MFF #ChildGuarantee
The European Child Guarantee has been an amazing mechanism for the realisation of children’s rights.
