“People become human once you recognize their humanity.” 🌍❤️ At our #WorldHumanitarianDay gathering, we reflected and asked: how do we invite others in, hear every voice, and see every person as fully human? Humanitarian work begins at home with compassion and courage. 🌟

The world marked #WorldHumanitarianDay this week.

2025 is on course to become the deadliest year for aid workers on record. Across the wider Caritas network, we're deeply concerned by the continual erosion of humanitarian law, something that Pope Leo XIV has also denounced.

August 19 was the anniversary of my speech, “A Whisper of AIDS,” and #WorldHumanitarianDay. Both call on us to speak against injustice, act where you can, and serve others — even when the obstacles feel insurmountable.

Thank you Spectrum SoCal for helping me share this message. #ActForHumanity

Armed conflict causes immense suffering to children.

Many spaces they rely on for education or play are no longer safe.

Children caught in war MUST be protected.

Those with power and influence must #ActForHumanity now.

On World Humanitarian Day, the U.N. reports 383 aid workers killed in 2024 — a 31% rise.

181 were killed by Israel in Gaza. 60 died in Sudan.

These were people trying to save lives.

This is not collateral damage. It’s a war on compassion.

Yesterday was #WorldHumanitarianDay. We’ve been reflecting on how listening — truly listening — can help us respond to others with care and empathy. Those who help others often carry heavy stories. Listening is one way we can support them too.

What does real listening mean to you?
