Reference boards with notes explaining the inspiration. There's many photographs, many from the Leeds Castle in Kent, but other only showing classic libraries in mansions. Medieval, Rococo and Art Nouveau styles all working together to depict the long history of the Cavendish family.

And some of the references (I had a lot!) but presented in a nicer manner. I tried to keep the Cavendish flair.

[Panel 2] But Diana’s arms did reach for her back without noticing. [Panel 3] And Akko’s are circling her neck. [Panel 4] Andrew did catch all of this of course. [Panel 5] Not that this will stop him from putting another coin in the machine. “How ridiculous. Plain crumpets are superior, of course.” Frank recognizes his humorous taunts and doesn’t fall for it.

[Panel 6] But Akko does, she turns her head with a disgusted look and glares at him like she’d look at a monster. “Plain ?!” “Ugh, of course you’d go for them.” [Panel 7] Still upset that Andrew would dare to choose PLAIN CRUMPETS in front of her, she searches for confirmation in Diana’s eyes. “So ?” She interrogates. “Oh, hum, well. I like biscuits.” Diana chooses, unsure if it was the expected answer. “Which ?” Akko isn’t satisfied. “Chocolate digestives ?” [Panel 8] Akko jumps in her arms ! That was the correct choice it seems ! “Yes ! I knew I could count on you !” She says, snuggling her; Diana is quite surprised this would get her so much affection.

[Panel 9] In the meanwhile, Andrew and Frank debate their actual favorite picks “I like scones.” “Scones are quite good.” Seems like they found an agreement. “Men have such bad taste, don’t they ?” Akko comments, again in hopes Diana agrees with her.

[Panel 10] Andrew gives a “See ? I told you” look at Diana. [Panel 11] Akko is sticking her tongue out at Andrew in defiance. Diana, however, is quite busy lovingly staring at her while they are so close. “Hmm, not always.” She softly answers.

[Panel 2] Andrew tries to get her to act on it. “You worry too much. You two already saved the world together, remember ? How hard could this be in comparison” He reassures her, waving his hand as if he was belittling her internal dilemma. [Panel 3] She smiles. “It was all her, I just helped her get there.”

[Panel 4] Andrew jumps on the occasion, and pointing in her direction, he continues her line of thought. “Exactly. And that’s why it could never work between us.” [Panel 5] With an uncomfortable grin he looks away, suddenly touched by his own words. “I’m too cynical.” [Panel 6] “She needs someone like you.” Diana doesn’t know how to react to Andrew; when did he become so … sincere ? Dealing with him when he was all backstabs and annoyances was easier, but now, he doesn’t get on her nerves like he used to.

[Panel 7] “Someone who is willing to fly into space alongside her.” Andrew finishes, and gives back the credit Diana herself won’t accept. The memory of the two of them on the Shooting Star, as the Shiny Rod dispersed itself back into the magic of the world, surfaces to Diana. Akko looked with a bittersweet expression at the sparkles of her wand leaving them, and Diana was already looking at her. Perhaps this feeling has a greater importance than she wanted to let herself know.

[Panel 8] “Dianaaaaaaaaa !” Akko suddenly jumps onto her, yelling in distress. [Panel 9] She latches herself onto her, crossing her arms around her neck, Diana by reflex reaches for her too, even if she is perturbed right now. “You’re the smartest witch I know :” Akko starts, as Diana is hanging on her every word, waiting for the end of this sentence like she never did before in her life. [Panel 10] Akko gets herself to Diana’s level, with a determined look she stares right into her eyes, Diana doesn’t move, she is frozen by the whole sequence of events, and she finally delivers : “Biscuits, scones or crumpets ?” …Excuse me ?

[Panel 2] Turning his back against the rock barrier, he continues “Though I won’t deny it, the thought did cross my mind.” Diana listens silently, still gazing at the lake melancholically.

[Panel 3] “But…” Memories flash before him, of when he met Akko and her antics at the party organized for his father by Luna Nova, when they sneaked around with these stupid ears she cursed them with… [Panel 4] Of meeting her again, this time at his birthday party, when she pep talked him into reconsidering his dreams… [Panel 5] When he saw her again, so determined to fight and save magic, using that strange wand that had been lended to her. “...it’s been a long time since I understood it wouldn’t happen.”

[Panel 6] Akko’s wide smile and her sparkling eyes… Andrew and Diana both know that there is so much depth hidden behind them; Akko has changed so much in just one school year. And so, the both of them did too; in their own distinct ways, they all grew up a lot, but Andrew feels like he has much more reflecting to do to reach them on an equal footing.

[Panel 7] “Andrew…” Diana turns around. He, on his part, seems satisfied. [Panel 8] “Are you planning on doing something about it ?” He sincerely asks her, with a smile.

Turns out he WAS into her at some point, but not anymore? How could he not? Akko is amazing and these 2 rich, aristocratic teenagers seem to have a type?
