New in JB: Borriss, Gao & Fan review the role of Bacillus velezensis, a strain isolated from a wheat field in Australia some 50 years ago, as a model for studying plant-associate beneficial bacteria.

A true labor of love for @calebmallery.bsky.social is out now in PLOS Pathogens: a review article where we highlight current and emerging examples of key protein-protein interactions with LuxR-type receptors that control community behaviors and pathogenesis.

Check out our most recent publication on antibiotic tolerance in biofilms. Thanks to all students for getting this done! Characterization of β-lactam resistance in dual-species biofilms of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
A must read! The constant and often irrational renaming of microbes is out of control, and bad for microbiology and microbiologists.

New in JB: Trottier, Déziel et al. show that despite the conservation of the PqsE sequence of P. aeruginosa and some key conserved functions, including and essential role for HAQ biosynthesis, this protein has different impacts across strains of Pa.

WOW! Fluorescein-based dyes are not valid reporters of oxidative stress in bacteria, and conclusions based on their use must be reconsidered www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
New lab paper!
Andrew Frando describes how MexT alters the quorum sensing cascade in P. aeruginosa. /1

The final paper is now published in Journal of Bacteriology. Reaching broad conclusions based on a couple of reference strains can be misleading, as there is a lot of strain-to-strain diversity in P. aeruginosa... journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/...

New in JB: Déraspe, Roy et al. perform a comparative genomics study of the PA7-clade of P. aeruginosa - now recognized as a distinct species, Pseudomonas paraeruginosa. This analysis revealed 2 sub-clades, the lack of T3SS & multiresistance.
