I have a small design rant I want to spend a minute talking about, as it goes with a conversation I just had with @onyxprismstudio.bsky.social on the subject of studying games. From time to time, I see people talking about games that had an overnight success like Vampire Survivors or Palworld...
I had a great conversation with @onyxprismstudio.bsky.social that we're going to continue for a podcast, and one of the points that is so important for developers to understand is how difficult and vital it is to get playtesting done and to understand what people are saying about your game.

Layering things for the shop animations is nuts.
Its kinda funny how the shop screen is the single most involved thing in the game, yet the most rushed through thing by players. (NO micro-transactions, just in-game earned currency)

An interesting thing we have noticed about our game.
Once you get used to the mechanics and "git gud" it behaves kinda like a mental fidget spinner.
People with ADHD seem to be able to focus in conversation better, including the devs :)

I find confident decisions comes from one of two places:
1) Prior experience and mistakes
2) Reflecting your thoughts off of others
If you don’t have the former, seek the latter.
