New Ideas, Old Budget Ever notice how hard it is to make good, healthy food while on a very, very strict budget? Yeah, me too. Both my partner and I have extremely tight wallets, but we love our food ... and even more, we love good, healthy food. So, I've decided to do some research. And it all started with a book. A book by Antoni Porowski - …

Decided to re-watch #themandalorian on Star Wars Day. Grogu is too cute for words. But, I have iced tea, and a purring cat on my lap. It’s a damned good day today.

Spending today #knitting the #frasersridgefingerlessmittens to match a hat I finished the other day. A simple but pretty knit as I sit and watch movies with my beloved.

Fiberous Weekend I'm rather looking forward to this upcoming weekend. Saturday is game day, and I get to forget the world for a little while. I've played Dungeons and Dragons for more than 30 years now (Himself got me into it when we were dating - a few years before we wed. So in all honesty, probably closer to 35 now), and this campaign is a fun one.

A Lesson Learned Welp, I learned a painful lesson with my sweater. I didn't do a gauge swatch for my sweater. My gauge was off ... not by much ... but enough that I might have to change needle size. That and I dropped a stitch three inches from the row I was currently on. In the increase. My forehead hurts for the amount of times I "headdesked" over my hubris.

Not the Boyfriend Curse So I've decided to take the plunge and knit myself a sweater. Since it's for me, and not a significant other, I'm safe from the Boyfriend Curse. I chose the Chole Cardigan from the Lions Brand website, and the Medium Purple yarn from Red Heart. And so far I'm really enjoying the process. Won't say much more than I love it. It's my favourite colour, and since this sweater has no buttons, I can use one of my new shawl pins to fasten it closed. The cast on was quite simple, and I took a shortcut by adding the stitch markers as I cast on.

How is it … How is it, that it's the end of March already? It feels like just yesterday, it was March 8th. It's a wee bit creepy, to me. In three days (probably two by the time this gets published), it will be my 2nd Stroke-aversary. Two years since I was laid up by a bilateral ischemic stroke. What a nightmare that was. I am so very glad my brain survived as much as it has.

Tired but Oh So Happy! Today, I was lucky enough to go to Fibres West 2025 with two very dear friends. Didn't get many photos - read: I only took one photo, as I was too busy shopping and seeing friends I hadn't seen in a long time. One of my high school friends has a sister who owns her own yarn store up north, and she was there today, along with my friend.

It’s an interesting feel, working with regular yarn, after doing so much with very tiny yarn. So far the Hug for my friend feels so squishy and comfy. Am making great progress on it!

Working on another #emotionalsupportchicken for a dear friend. I think the more ESCs are out there, the better. The world is a poopy place right now.

Well, tonight my partner and I watched the last one-shot from #voxmachina- “Dalen’s Closet”. I have to say, it broke my non-emotional partner. Well done, @criticalrole.bsky.social Now … onto The Mighty Nein!

As Time Moves On Welp ... as much as I have tried to keep up with my blogging, and I do remind myself a lot about doing this, I've let a long time pass. So, here is a post to let you all know what I've been up to: February was an interesting month. Started new things, and finished a few too. The biggest thing was the start of my new craft area.

So frustrating I can’t yarn as fast as I used to. Stupid brain.

The current fed government here in Canada makes it practically impossible for a stroke survivor to receive any funding to stay alive. They make me wish my brain had actually killed me.

With all the poop going on with Meta right now … I’m going to be posting here more, rather than Insta and FB.

That being said, have discovered the confusion that is the Baby Surprise Jacket by Elizabeth Zimmermann.

Doing this post-stroke is hard as hell. But I’m not giving up.

Knitting for the Homeless This year is a year of giving for us. 2024 was a brutal year with severe health issues, and causing money issues. Food security, as we learned, is a tough thing to live with, and there are so many in our community that deal with it every single day. To that end, all my acrylic yarn will be knitted/crocheted into hats, scarves and ear warmers for the homeless in our city.
