Hi mate, did you get any photos or good views of this bird? I was able to sound record it flying south over Chalk Bank at 11:08. Some discussion as to whether it’s a Citrine or an Eastern Yellow Wag.

Was really happy to find the Purple Sandpiper on the Breach this morning at @spurnbirdobs.bsky.social, you rarely see summer-plumaged birds in the UK and it’s safe to say this one showed quite well 😍😍 #birds #birding #NaturePhotography #birdsphotography #PWC2025

This caused some confusion, as before any rescue services could arrive it flew south at 9:17am, over the crest of the hill it was on and was never seen again. It possibly landed below the hill but that area was very overgrown and hard to see into. Hopefully it made it back to the sea unharmed 🤷‍♂️

We were also worried that people might break into the site to see it, as the site is a disused landfill site it can be quite dangerous in areas. So I was instructed to report online that it had already been “taken into care” even though it hadn’t, just to prevent anyone trying to break in.

Originally we called wildlife rescue services because it kept trying to stand up but falling over, however most wildlife rescue places didn’t want to rescue it due to risk of bird flu.
