Little bit of a later show tonight, but Talking Heads starts in just 20 minutes. We've got Intel B70 benchmarks, Right To Repair talk, and of course, MOOOOOON!
Sit back, relax, and enjoy a late night talk of the week in tech.

“Oregonians have been voting by mail for decades. It’s safe and secure. Even the president does it. Vote by mail increases access to the ballot which is a cornerstone to our democracy, and we’ll use every legal tool available to us to fight this and protect Oregonians’ right to vote.”
Read our statement on today’s executive order limiting vote by mail. #orpol
Nothing like new server day at craft studios
CS2 is definitely on my list to test 😁
So... I got a new server.

Better serve me some fucking lobster alongside my $9 diesel!
I ride my bike around town. Plus we just got our second EV. Full electric in this house!
We had a couple pumps like that in Portland, and one about an hour south. Still, I'm seeing $6+ for Diesel here in Oregon already, and $5+ 87 octane gas. This is going to get so much worse.
Almost out of room on that sign. Probably never thought we'd hit double digits before it needed replaced.
If oil hits $175-200+ as many predict, we might need more than a 1 in front, too.
Huh... well that didn't last long.
I do content both for homelabs and businesses. And today's brand new servers are tomorrow's homelabs. The reason most people run homelabs is to learn, and part of learning is knowing what hardware is coming next. Just because you can't buy something today doesn't mean you shouldn't learn about it.
Testing has started on the Dual Epyc 192-Core Supermicro AS-2126HS-TN. Here's a preview :-)
You have no idea. I just installed an 11.5kW Level 2 charger for my cars too ⚡⚡⚡
This is maxing out my 20A circuit. I'm looking at installing 240v 30A :-)
Proxmox status window showing 93.81% utilization of 768 CPU threads, running a pair of AMD Epyc 9965 CPUs. Also 1.03TB of memory used.
ITS ALIVE! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
1.21 JIGAWATTS TOO! Or at least 1256W at peak.
It's at 6000 right now, but they are 6400 sticks. We'll do some testing and see if my needs require the faster speed.
404: Joke not found
No way I'm just joking about the memory paging required for a 1.5TB system by making fun of people complaining about 8GB on a web access laptop.....
1100W, and that was *only* stressing 128 threads.
Great question. Doing a general review right now, but working on long-term uses soon. At the very least, it lets me do ANY compute project I could possibly think of.
CPU Temps for this box?
Nice.
And 🫲6️⃣7️⃣🫱
He's not ignorant. Stop attributing ignorance that which can be explained through malice, especially when they say the malice part outloud constantly.
Everyone saying the MacBook Neo with 8GB of RAM is enough... man, Proxmox takes 24.69GB just to boot into the OS these days.
Of course, that's because this server has 1.5TB...
Heh, I do have 2x 20A 120v circuits for my rack already, but I'm looking at adding a 30A 240v for newer gear like this.
AI certainly helps you regurgitate press releases at a rapid pace, while completely removing the need for thought or analysis. It's the perfect tool for those who measure success as a writer as "how many stories can I publish" rather than "am I telling the story properly".
We might be able to come close to that :-D
New server lands in the office today, thanks to Supermicro. Anything you guys want to see?
Oh, you should probably know the specs first....
2x AMD Epyc 9965 Turin Zen 5c
384-Cores / 768-Threads
24x64GB DDR5-6400 ECC, 1.5TB total
4x Kioxia 3.84TB Gen5x4 u.2
Are there any AI companies developing tools that aren't chatbots or LLMs? As it turns out... YES!

Really keyboard? Rubbing?
I mean, I was definitely rubbing in there, but that's different.
