Smiling woman with construction cranes and building in background ADAMS a Vertex Company logo. Text: Valerie Wilkins, Vice President at ADAMS, a Vertex Company. What drew you to the construction industry? I began my career in the construction industry because of my dad. When I was a kid, he would take us to his jobsites during construction and then after to see the finished projects. It was fascinating to see how things were built and to learn the amount of people that are needed from a concept stage to final delivery. I started in the heavy highway and water divisions. Within a few years, an opportunity opened up in healthcare construction. Healthcare has a different impact, and I can say now that I have had healthcare projects that have had a personal connection to my life, and I know the work I am a ; Bottom has Equinox HIT logo Text: Celebrating WIC Week 2026; and NAWIC.ORG-WICWEEK.ORG Silhouette of a city skyline with cranes, people, and text: Level Up Build Strong Communities | Careers | Futures in bold black and red.
