On this day, 34 years ago, the ML 5.9 Roermond #earthquake struck near the NL–DE border early morning. It caused major building damage, injured dozens, was felt as far as France and England, and triggered aftershocks that lasted for years. One person died from a heart attack. 🧪⚒️

Today I learned that there is a deep-sea bacterium that apparently can do photosynthesis independent of the sun. It uses infrared light from hot hydrothermal vents.

20 minutes ago, very deep (600 km) Mw7.1 earthquake below Sabah, Malaysia.
Deep enough to be harmless, I suppose, but (due to the depth) were felt at great distances
This type of events are relatively common more to the east, at Celebes Sea, not here...
