i had a bit of a "the tables are my corn" moment with my manager on friday. still feeling dumb about it
i didn't read the article but it sounds like the answer to "is geese a psy op?" is actually pretty grim: no, people genuinely enjoy that music
In 2019, I defended my PhD on 'It's not X, it's Y' and similar constructions, which I call contrastive negation constructions. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that 'It's not X, it's Y' would become the topic of comment pieces in newspapers.

my boggle bot ran out of the words last week and was briefly not posting, but i have added a new batch of words, which skew somewhat higher in letter count.
A venn diagram showing the overlaps (or lack of) between yacht rock, songs about boats, and Jimmy Buffett. Yacht rock barely overlaps with Songs about boats or sailing. Jimmy Buffett overlaps slightly more with Songs about boats or sailing. There is no overlap between Jimmy Buffett and Yacht Rock. Descriptions for each circle read: - Yacht Rock: only depends on sound. A breezy, polished blend of soul, jazz, R&B, and disco inspiration. - Songs about boats or sailing: Has nothing to do with qualifying as yacht rock. - Jimmy Buffett: Trop rock pioneer of island inspired jams blending folk, calypso, and country. Other annotations are a small arrow pointing to the overlap of yacht rock and songs about boats or sailing labeled"Christopher Cross 'Sailing'", and a note between Yacht Rock and Jimmy Buffett labeled "eeeeh? Maybe? Probably gonna start a fight."
Day 8 #30DayChartChallenge: circular.
Serious research happening over here...nyacht. Drawing as I learn, boy did I make some bad assumptions.

this whole album has really hit for me over the last 17 months www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEo9...
a screenshot with an error message: "Spotify's songwriting credits ("Written by") aren't avialable to query exhaustively with the tools here, so an exhaustive 2025-2026 list of every track written by Steph Jones can't be produced from Spotify credits metadata in this chat. If a partial list (with sources) is ok, or if you paste a credits page/export, a complete verified playlist-style list can be compiled from that input.
unfortunately and unsurprisingly, it is useless for my biggest problem
spotify screenshot: a playlist of bad liar by selena gomez, dead by madison beer, adore by amy shark, waiting for you by the aces, your best american girl, told you i'd be with the guys by cherry glazerr. on the right, it says "Top Streams 2017-2019" and has the prompt: "Provide a list of my 25 most streamed tracked between from 2017-2019, order them from post played to least, in the notes provide the number of plays, the total play time, and percent of all-time streams of the song that happened in 2017-2019 (compared to all-time)"
jealous that the spotify playlist agent gets sql access

i'm definitely in the "just say charts" camp, but haven't made my mind up yet on "chartmaking" vs "chart making". maybe it's just "making charts".

A snippet of a mini comic drawn by a student - in a caption box, it reads this comic is not for you and emanating from the box, a hand with finger pointing toward an exit sign for experts
My Infantino caption hands obsession is paying off! From a student comic…
trying the andreessen thing where i stop introspecting. impossible to know if it's having an impact though.
a pie chart with three sections colored purple (slightly below 50%), orange (maybe 35%) and gray (so 15% or so, don't worry about it the data is fake). each section of the pie chart is wearing sunglasses with a ">" sign for a nose and a skinny horizontal line for a face.
for religious reasons, i can't celebrate any holidays that aren't represented in Daria s3e4 "Depth Takes a Holiday", but i wish a peaceful and contemplative pi(e) day to all who observe.
honestly really happy to see Observable correct a rare L: a few months ago, they posted six ways of visualizing parts and wholes, but left off pies! this one has waffles too.

nearly done with the post. but the part left is to say complimentary things about multiple saas startups, so there's still a good chance I never finish.
