I have a lot left to learn, but moments like this set me on the path of acceptance and love for all kinds of people. It wasn't the only one but I am thinking about it a lot today. 4/4

I think just as important as the verbal exchange is Coop looking on, smiling with what looks to me like pride, as Denise leaves the room. 3/4

I don't know what it meant for transgender community, but I feel like a primetime TV show settling this with a simple "Ok" must have meant a lot. If Coop can easily and gracefully accept Denise, well so could I. 2/4

This simple exchange between Cooper and Denise changed the way I thought about transgender people. I didn't know the word "transgender" at the time, just "cross-dresser" unfortunately, but in one fell swoop, I learned to just accept folks with ease. David Lynch did this. 1/4

It actually has a great concept, but clearly a bunch of suits and reshoots happened because it feels incomplete. Check out this sword! It only makes one brief appearance!

Also there was a directive somewhere to punch up the comedy dialogue to give it bad Arnold Schwarzenegger style one liners.

The talent involved is insane. I mean: Emilio Estevez, Mick Jagger, Anthony Hopkins (fresh off his ‘Silence of the Lambs’ Oscar nod) and Rene Russo!

It was Dan Gilroy's first screenwriting credit! But he got to meet and marry Rene Russo…

Rewatched ‘Freejack’ (1992).I was feeling sad about stuff in life, needed something to entertain me in a fun way, and this rewatch totally fit the bill. Freejack is gloriously not good. At one point, my wife ducked in and said "Is that a joke?" I said "Yes." She said "Are you watching a parody?"

What’s a good film to watch when you’re mourning someone? There’s no correct answer. Just yours. I started “Grave of the Fireflies” and realized that was not the right choice for me.

I post this kind of stuff and my activity level goes from thousands to a hundred... A coincidence, I'm sure.

Some of the few memories that exist from that time in my life are in his basement, laughing with friends and giving each other shit.

So many memories. And now... they are just memories. No more swapping stories or reminiscing. That will have to happen with those who knew him. 3/3

The last time I spoke with Sean in person, we ran into each other on a Peter Pan bus back to the Vineyard. We sat together and reminisced about high school and swapped stories. I'd spent days of my life at his place on Boxberry Ave in high school. 2/3

It is times like these I wish I had no empathy. I wouldn't have to think about his mother looking over her son in a hospital bed, debating extubation. I wouldn't think of his wife of 5 years, now a widow. I wouldn't have to think of his poor fucking dog... 1/3

Pulling the thread and moving over to posting here more often, I think.

But hearing the Irish language on screen is a joy, even if I need subtitles. This movie is ugly to look at and I get that’s the tone, but it really was hard to look at. Sluggish pacing, but pretty good action. 

Anyway, a decent Irish-Western-Revenge movie but somewhat disappointing in the end. 5/5

My biggest issue is that the genocidal treatment of the Catholic Irish was mere backdrop, and the inciting incident gets lost or forgotten about completely for huge swaths of what was basically an Irish by-the-numbers revenge fantasy. It subverted expectations in a way I found unsatisfying. 4/5

Weaving is fantastic, and both Stephen Rea and Jim Broadbent can do a LOT with so little screen time. The actor who plays Feeney isn’t asked to do much more than glare and have a physically commanding presence, so that works. I honestly can’t say if he’s good or not, but he worked in the role. 3/5

Look, I’m fine with watching swarms of Royal Irish Constabulary, Brit landowners and their enablers get cut to pieces by Celtic Rambo taking poetic license during a vengeance spree. But I tuned in to something I thought was about the famine, not just using it for simple plot points. 2/5

Watched the Irish film ‘Black ‘47’ (Dir. Lance Daly, 2018). Imagine Death Wish took place in Connemara during the mid-19th century. Instead of muggers you’ve got stock British villains. Sprinkle in some Western vibes and fantastic actors. Boom, you have Black ‘47.
