I always assumed I just hated MOBAs because none of them ever clicked with me.
I have 200+ hours on Deadlock now.
Using AI to generate placeholder images for your games is cringe.
Just do what I do and use a picture of your dog with some text on it. You're going to replace it anyway, and if you forget, nobody gets mad because they found a cute dog picture.

Uploading my projects on itch for free but with optional donations is really funny because I'll just be minding my business and then get jump scared by $2 lmao

I know they are just placeholders, but honestly it's a vibe. Maybe add a secret level or two with this aesthetic lol
Finished this game for a game jam! It's like if Captain Toad and Blinx The Time Sweeper had a baby lol

Could even cut a large X shape across both sides instead of poking holes with a fork.
It makes the inside crisp up a bit!
Oh my God if you get the chance please share how you accomplished this. My attempt at making something similar was such a nightmare lol

ALL THIS BEING SAID
I'm learning Godot as a secondary engine. I've seen the shitshow Unity caused a few years ago, and I don't trust Epic's CEO to not fuck this up long term.
It's a great engine if you're willing to work with it on its terms. For now at least.
The engine itself is free until you make one million dollars. Then it's 5% royalties for every sale after that. Which at that point, you've made a million dollars already so..... Lol
Other things I like is EPIC gives away free asset packs twice a month. Anything from art assets to programming tools.
The visual scripting elements (Blueprints) is REALLY good and capable of making full games. I've made several games and have yet to write a regular line of C++.
Long story short: If you're working in Unreal, it's your job to optimize through disabling features rather than optimize by making features. It's a weird workflow, but it really works for me.
For example, you can turn off all the fancy new tech that's known for causing performance issues. People will say "what's the point of the engine then".
For me, it's the quality of life the engine offers. Unreal gives you so many tools so you aren't reinventing the wheel.
In an engine like Godot you have to build up what you want, in Unreal you strip back to what you need.
Unreal gives you a lot of "AAA" things that are on by default when you first open the engine, and this is the cause of the complaints you hear about.
I am a self taught Dev who's used Unreal for 6 years. My current version of choice is UE5.4.
There's a lot of things to like about the engine, most of my complaints come from the politics outside the engine.
Today's my last day at PAX, can't do the weekend. Had a great time, but my only regret is not being able to ask @writnelson.bsky.social for his babies.
Won a Halo 2 tournament at PAX East today
I've never played Halo 2 in my life lmao

Glad you liked it!
SAME.
I wish Godot had visual scripting as robust as blueprints. I'd switch instantly.
Talking about the game jam I participated in and showcasing the game I made for it!

What arc does season 2 end on?
There is! SFX and UI just make a popping noise when changing the slider, but the music and ambience starts playing the moment you change these values from 0 so you have a good idea of how loud everything is.
I make games, and this is the first thing you see when you boot my most recent game for the first time.
What did I just watch holy shit lmao
Finished my entry for the #badideasjam game jam which also requires a YouTube short to act as a pitch video.
I had fun participating in the jam and making the video!

Finished adding tutorial prompts to the puzzle platformer I'm making for a game jam.
They are input sensitive, so they change based on your keybinds and if you are using a gamepad or not!

The game jam lasts for a full month, so I took the first few days setting this system up so I could go real hard into level and puzzle design later.
I think that early work paid itself off 10x haha
Showcasing the workflow I set up for this puzzle game I'm making for a game jam. It's all set up so each puzzle element can call out to whatever it needs in order to activate/deactivate, allowing for quick level editing.

I've personally written off the entire curator side of steam because every interaction I've had with it was an obvious scam.
