in searching for the sound

It’s strange how hello can hurt like goodbye; whether the lungs fill beyond capacity or are crushed in a vacuum – the chest aches profoundly. But I feel whole again with your touch, knowing the countdown to you has ended, knowing I’ll never have to countdown like that again.
