Toxic and Non-Toxic Plants Our handy list contains plants that have been reported as having systemic effects on animals and/or intense effects on the gastrointestinal tract.

The ASPCA has a pretty handy look up tool for plant toxicity for dogs, cats, and horses. www.aspca.org/pet-care/asp...

When someone says „Scientists do not want you to know“ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

In an Intense Election Year, New Post Office Rules Could Trip Up Voter Registration - Bolts A change in how mail is postmarked could lead some voters to miss key deadlines, including voter registration. Advocates worry the people most affected will be those already facing voting barriers.

NEW: The USPS changed its rules on how it postmarks ballots.

This may affect elections at every stage at which there's a mail deadline.

An underplayed one: VOTER REGISTRATION.

Many voters who send in their registration forms by mail could be postmarked late, missing out without realizing it.

If you are a scientist funded by NIH and agree that if the HHS/NIH bill is held hostage by linkage for funding to DHS/ICE, we need to shutdown both and save lives, its time to speak up. Right now, with a few exceptions, the silence is deafening

It’s not about drugs. If it was, Trump wouldn’t have pardoned one of the largest narco traffickers in the world last month.

It’s about oil and regime change.

And they need a trial now to pretend that it isn’t. Especially to distract from his sinking under Epstein and skyrocketing healthcare costs.

The U.S. Is Funding Fewer Grants in Every Area of Science and Medicine (Gift Article) A quiet policy change means the government is making fewer bets on long-term science.

It's kind of like the @nytimes.com just figured this out. It is a serious problem. Keep reporting on it. Gift link:

A lot lot lot of emotions (positive) today but reading the goodbye notes of "your first student" ending in "science desperately needs mentors like you"

People, I'm an emotional South Italian queer person! I'm crying of joy!

Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.

PSA for people with NIH grant periods starting January 1st (including most NIGMS MIRAs): your RPPR is due Saturday, but they haven’t sent out the usual automated reminders, presumably due to the shutdown

Scaling back DEI isn’t just a moral setback—it’s a loss of innovation.

Bhalla, Trejo & @marymunson4.bsky.social in Nature Cell Biology: limiting who can participate in science “weakens research capacity and stifles discovery.”

Functionally treated CD54+ cells are able to engraft and contribute to muscle regeneration with a better efficiency compared to untreated cells.

We were able to purify SMPCs using a single surface marker (CD54/ICAM1) and analyze the cells transcriptionally and functionally.
At transcription level treated cells resemble late fetal stage SMPCs rather than embryonal SMPCs that are usually obtained in vitro

We started the project wondering if modulation of the jak2/stat3 pathway would be efficient in increasing the yield. When we inhibited the pathway after the appearance of PAX3+ cells (D12) we managed to double the amount of PAX7+ cells at D30, both in H9 and hiPSCs derived cultures

📣 The paper is out!!

In this paper we tackled 2 major bottlenecks of cell therapy, namely how to increase the yield of progenitors in vitro and, by serendipity, how to mature them to an higher developmental stage.

My quote of the day

The sole and basic source of our strength is the solidarity of workers, peasants and the intelligentsia, the solidarity of the nation, the solidarity of people who seek to live in dignity, truth, and in harmony with their conscience.
