Happy #NationalUnicornDay! Meet Tensing, our greater one-horned rhino, and Rudy, our black rhino—two real-life “unicorns” helping represent their species every day. ✨
We all have one thing in common: we love the Zoo! 🐾
Thank you to our guests, dedicated staff and volunteers, and generous donors who make this work possible. Because of you, we’re celebrating 130 years of impact here in Denver and beyond.
Happy #ZooLoversDay to everyone who loves DZCA!
Enrichment can come in many forms and all types of enrichment help keep our animals physically/mentally stimulated! 🦒🪞💦🥬

Our impact extends far beyond our 80-acre campus, connecting communities to conservation and protecting wildlife right here in our own backyard.
🐊 Our West African dwarf crocodile recently received a wellness exam including a CT scan, and we’ve officially confirmed… Jino is a female!
Determining the sex of this species isn’t always straightforward - it requires internal examination to know for sure.
Our next SCFD Community Free Day is Sunday, April 19!
Anyone who would like to attend a Free Day must register online once tickets are released. As a reminder, Free Day tickets will not be available on-site at the Zoo entrance.

Everybody say hi to Gertrude! 🐾
She’s the newest member of our yellow-backed duiker family and arrived back in November. She’s still getting comfortable in her new home at DZCA, so for now she’s settling in behind the scenes.
We’re hoping she’ll be out for guests to see soon—stay tuned!

Happy 56th birthday to Freddie Mercury! 🦩✨ Serving main-character energy since day one, our resident rockstar is still thriving in our care as the oldest flamingo at DZCA. He enjoys going on enrichment walks and spending time with the rest of the flock.

Carter, one of our golf carts, visited the Animal Hospital for a routine exam including wheel/oil work and an engineoscopy. Carter works hard every day helping our Veterinary team transport animals and supplies across the Zoo, so we want to be sure he's running at his very best. 🚘🔧 #AprilFoolsDay
We're thrilled to welcome two new male alpacas! While they don't have names yet, they're already making quite the impression.
As our llamas get older and as the alpacas continue to acclimate, these two will step into ambassador roles like going on walks and interacting with guests.
Happy birthday to Bailey and Kerry, our brown capuchin mother-daughter duo! 🎉🐒
Kerry is celebrating 39 and Bailey just turned 44, making Bailey not only the oldest member of her troop, but the oldest primate at DZCA!
We’ve got some jaw-some news! Five epaulette shark pups have hatched in Tropical Discovery! After about five months of incubation inside their “mermaid’s purses,” these tiny sharks have officially entered the world. 🦈
