Many people ask me what I study as an algebraic combinatorialist. I don't usually share too much to avoid doxxing myself (it's a niche area after all), but here's an interesting example I feel compelled to share:

Handed in my masters thesis yesterday. Loved the research part, the writing I enjoyed a little less. We'll see how it will be graded but the project was fun to do

Many congrats! Hope this is just the beginning for your journey

What I appreciate the most about math research is that the only thing you need to care about is the math itself. No need to worry about not enough people responding to your survey, the risk of blowing up a lab, acquiring rare/expensive materials/equipment etc. Just math.

Yeah same... I don't want to hear how damn stressed I am, I already know

Many many congratulations! Hope that you get more opportunities in the near future

I'm about to publish my first coauthored paper soon. I only contributed 3-4 pages out of ~20, but it still feels surreal. Just a year ago I didn't think any mathematician would've seen something in me to give me this opportunity, especially considering my undergrad grades.

Love the "draw graph" section of House of Graphs. Just draw your graph and download it in Tikz

I had 38 seconds on the clock when I got to this position in a bullet game. Can you find the forced checkmate within this time? (I didn't - chat, am I cooked?)

Was in Korea couple years ago and was right in the heatwave there similar temperatures to that. I survived but damn it is not nice

Comultiplication in \mathbb{C}[x] is given by
\Delta(x^n) = \sum_{i=1}^{n} x^i \otimes x^{n-i}
which is what I don't get - this formula seems pulled out of a hat to me.

I don't understand the intuition behind comultiplication in (co/bi)algebras. Yes I'm aware that it's the dual of multiplication, but categorical duality means nothing to me in terms of intuition. Is there a better explanation of how to find an expression for Δ(x) given μ?

Why is so little known about the representation theory of the symmetric group over positive-characteristic fields?

Society needs to learn how to deal with this. Helping out others is great, them interpreting it differently is less great but after clarification should be forgiven. If after clarification they still are mad then they need to grow up

Illustration. A self portrait done in procreate on deep warm pink paper. I’m sitting in a field surrounded by weeds and wildflowers holding zinnias. My skin is bright green. Some stylized 60s butterflies frame me, they have minty green colored stars. Above is a very deep blue night sky full of yellow stars, it says acid lich in a green 60s style hand lettering and there are pink clouds in the sky. It’s framed by stripes of the colors used in the piece, brown, orange, pink, yellow, green, bright blue and lavender.

This trend has been going viral on tw*tter so I'll cross-post my entry here as well.

Four math books that had a big influence on my mathematical thinking. Your turn.

Newton and Hilbert aged backwards I guess and Galois survived his battle!

Symmetric function theorists:
Since the plethystic substitution & evaluation maps don't commute in general due to an extra factor of (-1)^n involved when evaluating the plethysm of a negation (a problem when n is odd), would a characteristic 2 setting solve this problem?
