Congrats to my former student, Adam Cotton, for one of the best paper titles, on a very interesting topic--does the presence of ultrasonic frequencies enhance the restorativeness of nature sounds. Short answer--no. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

NEW reporting from @19thnews.org on the Epstein files shows how academic research funding intersected with women scientists and institutional power shaped by male influence. An important story about accountability, impact and who gets protected -- and who doesn't. 19thnews.org/2026/02/epst...
I've experienced lots of technical difficulties when giving talks, but this might be the first talk in a brewery experiencing a power outage...

and none of those pieces are being written by people who understand how that level of constant abuse CHANGES you
it’s not a mere tedious cleanup process, blocking today’s round of trolls just like sorting out the junk mail from the bills and birthday cards
it does not live on you that lightly
Riding bikes is 10X more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero cities. And that’s just the climate emissions. Doesn’t include the massive public & personal cost, the air & noise pollution, the huge space difference, etc… @theconversation.bsky.social

“They weren’t lazy about it—they didn’t just throw up barriers & ban cars,” @BrentToderian.bsky.social said. He also marvelled at how much was done with comparatively little funds—little over C$1 million.

Can you spare 15 minutes to take part in our study exploring the cultural influences on music and memory? We need big numbers so please share as widely as possible: tinyurl.com/MusicUoW #PsychSciSky #musicscience
Yes. We are collecting data now, and even getting to Stage 1 was quite the process. My PhD student is extending as a direct result.
Faculty, if you have grad students, are you required to pay them a stipend out of your grant funds? I know this is required in some departments but not all. Trying to build a case to support our students.

We also attempted to make it mandatory, but we opted for guideline in the end to get everyone on board. It really is unclear how to deal with grant gaps without institutional backstops.
Yep, that is exactly what that means. Some members of our department did not feel that they could guarantee that amount from grants, nor was it straightforward to figure out how to encumber that amount for grants that would end before the student finished, so this was the wording we selected.
7k is the amount of a 4 month TAship, so it basically tops up summer funding to the amount they get the rest of the year from TAing.
We put a in a policy "That graduate supervisors strive to adhere to the following guidelines regarding funding graduate students from their grants." 7k/yr for grads w/o scholarships, 4k if scholarship is <20k. Was not clear how one could require anything for reasons mentioned, but we wanted to help.
This will be my kids. I recently finished a bottle of maple flavouring purchased in the US in the 90's. It's lived in as many countries as I have.
