The burden of inaccessibility should not be placed on the disabled community.
People with disabilities should not be responsible for needing to fix things that were built without them in mind in order to function and live their lives.

The BBC undercover investigation into false immigration claims is deeply irresponsible journalism. It does not highlight that exploitation by unregulated advisors occurs because legal aid was cut and the system is insane to navigate.
This is 4 years old, but I remember it as an eye-opening exploration of the perception that claiming to be bisexual was an easy way to claim asylum. Is the spoiler “it isn’t” even necessary!?

Very good thread, and something rarely discussed. thank you.
I really like AAU as a term.
I think period-pants are similarly AAU - your thread chimed with me in terms of them likewise being game-changers for “good flow states and attention tunnels” during the sensory nightmare of menstruation.
Sending much love to trans and nonbinary folk today in relation to the new EHRC guidance being kept secret for another 3 weeks while not knowing how it affects your future legal rights.
I'm for no obeying in advance and looking at what cis allies can do to support that. #NoRollback #TransRights
People also think communication is one skill.
Break it down into smaller sets. For example - I’m not good with unexpected spoken requests, I can’t even parse the language sometimes.
But I can run an engaging workshop, where I respond to audience questions, even very tangental ones.
Highly recommend cycling with a dog.
I’ve been cycling with mine for 4 years. Far fewer driver incidents.
I’m forced to conclude UK drivers value dogs’ lives more than cyclists’.
Photo taken from point of view of person lying in a hammock. Their legs and feet in shot, against a blue sky, fluffy clouds, house, garden, trees and a not to forget the fluffy labradoodle.
I, like many, am not good at knowing what “time off” looks like.
But today I think I might have had a glorious glimpse.
When did others get their annual #PIP rates letter?
I’ve just had mine, dated 2nd March yet also Royal Mail 1st Class?
Mine has to be sent in accessible format as I can’t read standard print. So I’m wondering whether this is the #DWP putting the date on before taking a month to print differently?
Great swathes of the country that no longer have youth hostels was a great betrayal from the generation that had them to all those which follow.
I don’t get why these are different “math” - they all use the same mathematical system, the only difference is how the values relate - so give someone a formula sheet and they are all doable even if you don’t know what each symbol represents in the real world.

BREAKING: information now coming in that the Dutch have been hoarding the solution to the oil crisis.
"We could just as easily conclude that the designers of the Sally-Anne test lack theory of mind based on their failure to predict that autistic kids possess patterns of social understanding that they themselves have no reason to possess."

Is the exam testing knowledge or speed?
And go one further, is it testing understanding or memorisation? Open book exams test understanding… just saying.
Our rights at work are under attack. #StopTheSteal
Reform UK has pledged to rip up legal protections for workers and renters, handing power to bad bosses and rogue landlords.
Drivers who overtake into the path of uphill #cyclists forcing them to stop should meet the same fate as Sisyphus, forever rolling a boulder uphill, but with the added bonus of being stopped by ghosts of their past selves overtaking downhill and having to hill-start.

New OLH poster drop and accompanying piece by Dr Paula Clemente Vega: “If scholarly publishing is a site of struggle, the question is no longer whether change is needed, but whether we are prepared to redistribute power and resources to make knowledge truly free.”
Image is Sian smiling, looking very excited, holding a vinyl album. The record cover is white and in black text the album title reads: Is This What We Want?
Image is Sian holding up the back cover of the album. The tracklist reads: the british government must not legalise music theft to benefit AI companies (bonus track)
Thank you to the more than 1,000 musicians who released this SILENT album to protest changes to copyright law that make it easier for AI companies to steal artists’ work to train their models.
I am extremely pleased the Government has started to *listen* and made no final decisions yet.

Found out yesterday while chasing the award letter issued in adec that I’ve still not received that they’ve closed the AtW complaints email.
aka. the way to complain about inaccessible communication has been closed in favour of inaccessible ways to make complaints.
Make it make sense!
Wikipedia now has higher standards than all universities
we all do what we can
“Using artificial intelligence tools to read thousands of chest X-rays and prioritise abnormal ones did not lead to faster lung cancer diagnoses, according to a new study led by researchers from UCLH, UCL and the University of Nottingham.”

I like the redesign. It’s clearer for someone being shown it who has no previous context.
It focuses on what they need to do, rather than worrying them about what “safe” could mean. A practical instruction.
But someone who struggles to read black on white, I’d love to have some colour choices.
I have a pet theory that the reason we non-neurotypicals keep failing on “understanding facial expressions correctly” is that we correctly see fake as fake and NTs have bizarre some social behaviour where they will fake their expression more than have genuine ones.
The difference between me and ChatGPT is ChatGPT will tweak its style if you prompt it to and I’ll just tell you to go fuck yourself
A truly amazing story. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/mar/24/man-... Sounds like the guy needed serious help rather than prison, but the level of compassion here should be an inspiration to us all.
