A group of people standing in the sun next to water. They laugh and have paddles in their hands.
Any ocean (biogeochemical) modeller wants to be part of this fun crowd for a while?
We're hiring a 🧪 PostDoc at @awi.de to assess carbon pathways into the interior 🌊 ocean and timescales of carbon sequestration with Lagrangian tools.

Forget "total cost of ownership." In the UK, the average EV is now cheaper than the average ICE vehicle, up front. Sticker cost.
And of course the savings just keep accumulating after that.
Giant icebergs are amazing beasts.... a couple of years ago, we visited one up close, and now the results are published!
Outstanding research from Laura Taylor and co, demonstrating how these behemoths of the sea influence ocean chemistry and the growth of life: www.nature.com/articles/s43...
Key point. Much like heat waves, sea ice extremes are likely caused by a number of different processes in different sectors and depending on distance from the coast.

Luckily our institutions are *on the case*, including the nine lawyers at the Supreme Court, famously careful thinkers. From the NYTimes:

They even thought about the succession-like soundtrack.

TIL Kotz et al 2024 was the only study that’s found large global costs from climate change. Thanks for the lit review, Secretary Bessent. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/14/b...
My guess is most academics would be happy to continue to work “for free” (meaning editing/reviewing) if journals were well-run nonprofits instead of what they’ve become. I know I would.
Imagine owning a restaurant where the chef pays you to cook in your kitchen but then they pay you again to eat the food.
And you pay the sous chefs, waiters, and hosts nothing.
That’s modern academic publishing.
The thing politicians never, ever seem to remember is that preparation and accurate monitoring and forecasting for natural hazards is _ridiculously_cheap_ compared to cleaning up a disaster after it happens. Don't cut USGS hazards funding; mitigation pays for itself many, many times over!
Yeah. This is pretty crazy.

Let's spin up the broken record.
If we're serious about CO₂ removal, we can't rely on one tech company to make it happen. It has to be a governmental effort at all levels.

Call your congress people and let them know, because the 2027 budget is threatened to be cut right now.
The Supreme Court decision granting the president immunity plus the unlimited pardon power is a formula for corruption the likes we are yet to see, even by 2025-2026 standards.
🚨 NSF is already quietly eliminating the SBE Directorate, despite Congress’ mandate that NSF support the behavioral & social sciences.
Steps to counter this are in motion.
If you
- have an SBE proposal under review
- serve on an SBE grant panel
