Great example. The new X-Com games have basically the same gameplay as the original games that came out nearly 30 years ago. And no one thinks the new games feel dated

More game developers should take a tip from Assassin's Creed Black Flag
It basically used the same assets as the previous game but added more of the stuff people liked and a whole new story with great characters and fantastic writing...
