Oh and here's the starting area of the prototype from within #unrealengine (free assets for now). The "feel" of the day time is almost there.

I decided to add some basic ambient sound to my tiny prototype section of the larger open-world level in my #unrealengine project. I had no idea this would end up with a ton of beautifully red sphere wireframes 😅 This is probably not the most performant solution but who cares - it's a prototype 😇

Well, you’ve got yourself a DM!

Well… everything. Creatures, first person arms, various props, foliage… you name it 😂

It’ll be extremely useful once I get to the point where I need to roughly estimate the production phase.

I’ve begun actually registering how much time I spent on features in my prototype. Not for any particular reason but to see how long it’ll take me to make a mechanic. It’s quite interesting. Apparently it only took me 2,5 hrs. to implement a resting feature which I expected would take longer.

Already made a reminder for myself so I won’t get startled once it begins 😅

honestly, why do you make games?

1 year ago 91 5 88 184

Because I want other people to have many great gaming memories as I have from my childhood.

Well, "solo" until I find a 3D teammate somehow 😅

Having accepted the fact that I cannot create as high fidelity 3D models as my solo #indiedev #unrealengine game requires, I've begun working on designing my "enemies" within the game - not designing as in visual representation, but designing as in #gamedesign.

And oh boy, are you in for a treat...

Being a software engineer, I always find it interesting to delve into the narration of the game and explore my possibilities to tie it all together. Thera nothing quite like a compelling story to drive the actions of the player.

For a long while, I’ve been focusing on the technical implementation for my game. I’ve decided to take a step back and look at the backstory. That’s a quite interesting process, and nothing should be added to the game without meaning of some sort.

I have the sketch for my landscape, I just can’t get the shape into Gaea as I want with the draw 😂 And my island has extremely sharp edges near the shores… I need to experiment with the different nodes 😊

My game is set on an island and for now I’ve just used the default open world map from #ue5. Starting up the process of building the island. I guess I’ll have to look at tools like Gaea 😅

An Unreal Engine saving & loading system — Part 1 of 2 I’ve been searching the internet for weeks, in a quest to find some valuable information in regards to a save/load system in Unreal Engine…

As I've been struggling to find any good resources to learn saving/loading in #unrealengine, I've decided to make my own resource available for others.

I've made part 1 out of 2 available on Medium, and hopefully this can help someone else.

Well, a combination of serialization and custom structs... Not everything is suitable for serialization... I've learned 😅

I think I may have cracked the code in regard to saving/loading actors, uobject, player character, controller, inventory, game state, game mode... etc. in my #unrealengine game, utilizing FObjectAndNameAsStringProxyArchive. This is quite exiting 🥳
