Colorful but empty boxes each with 96 placement slots lie empty on lab counter.
How can one remove 70 sample boxes and the lab freezer still looks full?!
Pleased to be part of the this amazing network across Canada!
MP Kirsty Duncan has served in Parliament since 2008, but before that she was a scientist. Ahead of International Women's Day, she shared her experience as a woman in research and the challenges of encouraging more women to choose a STEM career. #IWD

We finally got a ChatGPT generated review on a manuscript. So I wrote about how we handle these reviews is a sign of whether we have given up on peer review altogether.
Did you know up to 70% of breast cancer patients whose disease has spread will experience bone metastasis? #BoneMetsAware

A green-blue bar graph showing the rise in the number of publications on bone metastasis from 1910 to 2025, peaking in 2022.
Research on bone metastasis has increased over the years, but is still very challenging to study.

Developmental biology discovers fundamental biological concepts, develops new technologies, and elucidates disease mechanisms. And so many fascinating phenomena remain unexplained. Some examples of concepts discovered and technologies created by developmental biologists since 1974:
Yikes you got that right. We usually get more towards spring …
Shoot. Thought we were pretty short on it this winter but haven’t yet been out.
How was the snow? Is there enough?

Maybe I should wear a bell to the lab as to not startle focused people in zen-mode who have relaxed in the comforting hum of fans and machines
Very pleased that our Routledge History of Loneliness is now out (& reasonably priced) in paperback - 30 multidisciplinary essays exploring the history of loneliness, its form and development across cultures c.17C to the present. #skystorians🗃️

Two photos of Anna, a young white woman using an electric wheelchair, wearing a blue lab coat that fits her well with tables and dry-lab equipment in the background. Text reads: "A team of researchers and designers led by UCL is looking for wheelchair users working in wet lab environments to user-test what is believed to be the first-ever prototype of a lab coat adapted for wheelchair users."
Do you know a UK-based wheelchair user who works in a lab and would be willing to user-test our prototype of what is believed to be the first-ever lab coat adapted for wheelchair users?

I think our freezer is reaching maximum density and at risk of forming a quantum singularity.
Surround yourself with the kind of people who make small talk with stray animals.
Looks cool!
It hasn’t been that long since we needed winter woollies - why is it always a mystery to actually find them? (When it’s too late and it’s already freezing and windy 😂🥶)
Our lab has also been plagued with bad antibodies or else fantastic ones that were sadly discontinued. Speaking of which does anyone know of a great anti- beta-casein antibody? 🧪 🍼🥛

Why do -80C freezers always crash on a weekend?
