I was privileged to be part of our Ohio State cancer program celebration of #WomenInStem to commemorate the #IDWGS and see my colleague Dr. Electra Paskett bestow the 2025 Bloomfield Legacy award on Dr. Liz Jaffee, a distinguished leader, gifted oncologist, and innovative cancer researcher.
What do the cuts to #NIH #indirectcosts mean? Science is a lot like trying to make a cake. Direct costs cover the ingredients and bakers, but indirects cover everything else: oven, bowl, spoons, electricity, the building, dishwasher, etc. You can’t make a cake without covering both. #SupportResearch
Happy #internationalwomemandgirlsinscienceday to all of my colleagues @osucccjames.bsky.social @osuwexmed.bsky.social and #WIMS at Ohio State! I’m celebrating you and the next generation of #WomeninSTEM
Excellent graphic demonstrating how the new 15% cap on F&A by the #NIH will damage the research enterprise, our health, and our economy. Please tell your legislators that disease is nonpartisan and the NIH needs greater investment not less. Jobs and our longevity depend on it.
Happy Women Physicians Day!
Thinking of Dr. Regina Benjamin, 18th US Surgeon General, youngest person and first African American admitted to the American Medical Association’s Board of Trustees. “She spent her career championing a better healthcare system—one focused on equal access..”

In her very short tenure, Dr. Bertagnolli accomplished many things, but I’m so sad to see her leave this #NIH post before she could bring many of them to fruition. 😢
I’m deeply grateful for her service to our nation, all citizens, and cancer patients worldwide.

Reflecting on our #SurgeonGeneral’s parting Rx for our country. Spending 2025 leaning into my #community , servant leadership, and finding fulfillment in my purpose and loving the people in my life.

Waking up remembering these wise words from an extraordinary woman. I hope to always extend a hand of friendship, kindness, and love.
