Original caption from South Downs Trust:

This week from 22-29 April, any donation you can make to our Beelines match funding campaign with Earth Raise, formerly Green Match Fund will be doubled.

Bees are in trouble. They are struggling with habitat loss, fragmentation and increased use of pesticides.

Here in the South Downs National Park our Beelines intiative has been working to reverse this trend since 2019 and we are seeing amazing results.

With Beelines we are creating a new network of wildflower corridors to help support bees and other pollinators. New planting creates pathways to allow insects to move more easily from one pollen-rich area to another. Often new planting is along field margins or roads, land that is unproductive for growing food.

Everything you can donate this week gets doubled! We would love to create more habitat for the bees. Thank you!

It was filmed in a sweltering studio in the summer of 2025. So, not that much fun. I don’t know if not making comedy shows would prevent idiots from bombing fellow humans but I suppose we could try.

Hugh is also keen to share his views on the state of the theatre today, and its value and importance for the future. Indeed, when he is much in demand on screen, why does he choose to take to the stage again?

‘Theatre, or live performance of any sort, has a premium, certainly an emotional, spiritual and aesthetic premium,’ he says. ‘Because it’s real, it’s not fake. Everything you see online, you think: “Is that true? Has that interview been manipulated?” You can’t beat being in a theatre with a couple of hundred other people experiencing a story being told.’

‘I took a friend to a production of Romeo and Juliet, and Romeo fluffed a line. My friend thought it was amazing – he fluffed his line! It was real! It was a sort of revelation, that theatre is happening in the present moment. And that is why I think performers enjoy it so much‒ you can’t be edited out of the final version. And, as Judi Dench says, “tomorrow night, you can get it right.”’

"Bookshops are the quiet pulse of the high street, places where, with each book browsed and each page turned, imagination can take flight. They are the gateway to stories we all cherish, whatever our age. I've been lucky enough to visit many beautiful bookshops recently, and the care they take in serving their communities is deeply heartening.
From a party for local families and school talks with P&G Wells in Winchester, to an extremely jolly signing with Hungerford Bookshop, and a pleasingly large pile of international orders in Backstory Books in Balham, I feel honoured to have been supported by these and many more."
