Original caption from South Downs Trust: This week from 22-29 April, any donation you can make to our Beelines match funding campaign with Earth Raise, formerly Green Match Fund will be doubled. Bees are in trouble. They are struggling with habitat loss, fragmentation and increased use of pesticides. Here in the South Downs National Park our Beelines intiative has been working to reverse this trend since 2019 and we are seeing amazing results. With Beelines we are creating a new network of wildflower corridors to help support bees and other pollinators. New planting creates pathways to allow insects to move more easily from one pollen-rich area to another. Often new planting is along field margins or roads, land that is unproductive for growing food. Everything you can donate this week gets doubled! We would love to create more habitat for the bees. It's nearly ten years since #Beelines #BeeNetwork and we've got the Chorlton Cycleway and a few junction improvements, it's just not enough. All the main roads into Manchester should have fully segregated lanes & junctions as a priority.

Yeah, #Beelines #BeeNetwork has been a few crossings and the Chorlton cycleway. One or two bits here and there too. We need a massive systematic effort aimed at maximising joined-up usable coverage.

Full segregated routes along every A-road from M60 into central Manc for a start.

I keep popping up in bike people threads (sorry Owler) to bemoan the seeming collapse of #Beelines after it became a bus project. Not heard anything about the Dutch-style waymarkers, for example, or sorting all the missing links and barriers.

That isn't based on anything except a lack of news online. There was a big buzz around #Beelines before it became a bus branding and improvement scheme.

I'm really sad that #Beelines has petered out and there seems little ambitious in the pipeline.

I imagine it will be one very expensive new towpath and a few months of publicity fluff. And sort of peter out like #Beelines #BeeNetwork after the flagship project(s).

The four Whitebeam #trees and part of the wildlife hedge that we planted at the bottom of #Lewes Cemetery in the #Beelines patch as part of our "Trees for Bees" project with LDC. We planted native wildflowers on the grassy spaces between the trees.
