What a wonderful event for the borough today with this engaging piece of artwork by Tony Mallon called 'Winds of Change'.
Widnes is now the proud owner of this huge piece of public art which stretches along the New St walkway from beginning to end.
A proud day for Widnes heritage

#ThrowbackThursday This rather blurred photo is important for anyone reminiscing about town centre shops. Albert Rd in Widnes 1950. The coach is one of a fleet operated by Sexton & Scragg by Clayton's Undertakers. A search of the newspapers brings up an article from 1991 which may be of interest.
#ThrowbackThursday It felt as cold as this yesterday! Photograph showing a boat, the A B Burton, frozen in the canal at Spike Island in 1948 whilst on its way to the Sankey Sugar Works at Earlstown
#ThrowbackThursday Photograph of Victoria Road, Widnes looking towards Widnes Central Station. The photograph was taken from the tower of St Paul's Church in about 1905. Looks a bit like a Lowry!

Dulcine - where's she now, eh! Dulcine was shown to have 200 times the sweetening power of sugar made with phosgene amongst other ingredients! Funny to think that the research into this was nearly 100 years ago. ICI with their fingers in every [apple] pie :) #iciarchives #unitedalkalico
