Yes! And, tell them that. The explanatory power of energy is not great, but the applicability is huge. All tools have strengths and weaknesses. I understand the pedagogical goal of understanding, but I adore the thinking-like-a-physicist that comes from actively ignoring with energy.

Offer to host a study group at the house so the kid can practice explaining and to make sure the goal is everyone gets better at all the parts of physics

Day 27: Giving Back the Test and Learning from Mistakes I didn't write a blog for Friday; it was a test day. Today, I passed back the test. I wanted to point out a particular problem that almost every student missed. The problem didn't look like a...

Day 25: Starting the Wave Model of Light We got out the tiny little wave tank, which is so worth it, since I use them so much more than I would ever use the old larger wave tanks. We saw just how much more difficult it would be to draw...

Day 24: Reviewing Mechanical Wave Model In one class, I finally said why I called this unit the mechanical wave model, since mechanical waves cannot use a vacuum as its medium. (I always mention that a vacuum is not a vacuum cleaner, as...

Day 23: Two Labs! I know these are just simple cylinders with a piston, but I really like how I can do two labs in one day with this equipment, in two different ways.  First, we use the speaker, tune it to a...

And now today's #teach180, for Monday. We did two sound labs today with basically the same equipment! lerner180.posthaven.com/day-23-two-l...

Day 22: Spreadsheets (Again) and Going over Possible Friday was a homecoming assembly, so we had a shorter class. Plus my mind was on spreadsheets, again. We used to use this not-ideal way to sign up for parent-teacher conferences which meant that...

OK, this is my #teach180 for day 23, which was Friday. But writing it today made me realize that I'm trying to be the adult that can help by making teachers' lives easier. lerner180.posthaven.com/day-22-sprea...

Days 21 and 22: Three Types of Standing Waves Yesterday, after a quick review of homework, we looked at a string vibrator and the different standing waves we could get on the string. The ability for students to touch it, and realize that it...

Day 20: Clever Hans & Problem Solving We did one of my favorite introductory problems today in AP Physics 2. It's a series of two problems that lulls them into complacency: Oh, you're asking how the wavelength will...

Join any time. A bit of reflection every day helps. But I will admit it's best to start at the beginning of the year, because then, at the end, you have an even better record (and understanding) of how the year went.

All Standards | Notion Made with Notion, the all-in-one connected workspace with publishing capabilities.

If you want to see my standards, and my (not perfect) cut-and-paste of the CED to match each standard, look here: www.notion.so/lernerphysic... You may have to change the filter to see AP2, APC Mech, and APC E&M.

Bree, I've been doing SBG for APC for the past 10 years, I think? I took the last CEDs for AP2 and both APCs and broke them down into standards that work for me. (My APC students have taken AP1 and AP2, so those standards might be too big for other teachers).

Thanks for the catch! It works now for me. I hope it works for you.
