Preprint Radar 📡: Ever wondered how loneliness and personality interact with each other over time?
Together with @wiebkeb.bsky.social and @peterhaehner.bsky.social ner.bsky.social, I examined this question using data from three nationally representative panels (N = 63,555).

Check out Lukas' first first author paper on self-esteem development after negative life events, now published at EJP:
Wie verändert sich unsere Persönlichkeit über ein Jahr? Dazu starten wir heute eine neue Studie und suchen nach Teilnehmenden zwischen 18-40 Jahren, die Interesse haben, Einblicke in ihre Persönlichkeit, Wohlbefinden und Verhalten über ein Jahr zu erhalten und bis zu 173 CHF (~185€) zu verdienen.

New preprint!
Ever heard that personality doesn't change? Do you believe that? (you shouldn't)
Using data from an online survey (n = 887) & eight longitudinal datasets (n = 166,971), we compared perceived vs. actual lifespan changes in personality and 20+ individual differences (1/8)

In the last months, I supervised two super-talented research interns (unfortunately Bluesky-less). They were interested in how self-esteem develops after negative events and examined this question in a longitudinal study over 6 months.
You can find their results here:

Ever wondered whether our personality influences our first sexual milestone? 🍒
We explored how the Big Five traits affect the timing of first sexual experiences — and how these, in turn, shape personality traits over time.

Finally, we found preliminary evidence that also the perception of specific event types differs across the lifespan
Furthermore, controlling for event type, the perception of major life events differed across age.
We found that there are expectable differences across age groups regarding the reported event types and domains
The question I've got asked most frequently at conferences when I was presenting something on the perception of life events was whether there are any age differences.
Using data from the SOEP-IS, we addressed this simple but interessting question.

A study by @wiebkeb.bsky.social & @mdkraemer.bsky.social shows caregiving lowers life satisfaction and raises anxiety, depression, and loneliness. #SupportCaregivers

In a mini meta-analysis (7 studies, 26 effect sizes), we found initial evidence that interventions that aim to facilitate VPC are successful in doing so: d = 0.22.
We compared effect sizes on volitional personality change with normative personality changes and psychotherapy:
In a systematic literature search, we then identified 30 studies on volitional personality change. Overall, we found that simply having a change goal was only weakly related to volitional personality change.
In a frist step, we tried to integrate contemporary theories on volitional personality change:
Can people intentionally change their personality?
Happy to share that our review on volitional personality change research has now been published at Nature Communications.

Argh, this was not how the images were supposed to look like. Another try:
Integrating data from 8 panel studies, we found several replicable moderators of event-related personality changes. However, each moderator explained only a small proportion of the variance of event-related changes.
The review revealved that only age and gender have frequently been considered as moderators of event-related personality changes.
CDA2: Which variables can predict individual differences in event-related personality changes?
To better understand why people differ in their personality development in context of life events, we conducted a systematic review and a CDA across 8 panel studies.
Findings partly replicated the results of the meta-analysis but also differed in some important regards. Here an overview of which findings replicated (dark shading = finding emerged in our CDA and existing MA):
... for some life events were relatively small and the meta-analysis only examined pre-post event changes.
To overcome these limitations, we conducted a coordinated data analysis across 7 large-scale panel studies (N = 195,000), with 2-10 times larger samples size per event than the existing MA.
