How many more people have to die before the central government understands we’re in a climate crisis in little old NZ? (Rhetorical, I know 🙄😑)
Vote these fuckers out & get everyone else you know to vote them out too #nzpol

This is a great example of how genAI steals from us all on multiple levels. It's stolen a promotional spot for real books and authors, it's stolen a job from an actual journalist who could have compiled this, it's stolen an opportunity for parents to be recommended good NZ books for their kids

It's yet another example of entrenched institutional racism in the NZ health system. Note that much of this occurred under a 'centre-left' govt, with persistent inaction in the face of need. It's obviously worse under the current govt, but it's not a blue vs red issue. It's a colonial racism issue.
Our article in today's NZ Medical Journal - a disgraceful story of structural racism in NZ health policy. It highlights govt refusal to address a glaring inequity despite clear evidence and sustained advocacy. The result is avoidable disease and mortality for Māori and Pacific people.
That's because we want it to do our housework, not write our novels, ya planks
NZ Govt suppressing the publication of clinically developed appropriate guidelines for gender affirming care to force Simeon Brown's christofascist extremism on our kids.

No preemptive capitulation to fascist creep!
It doesn’t give me great faith that they would take an ethical stand and support doctors who put themselves on the line.
I’ve been thinking about this too.
I would hope that at least some of my colleagues will be willing to put themselves on the line.
I’m not so sure about the Medical Council. Their response to complaints directed at colleagues for speaking out about the genocide in Gaza has been … disappointing.
"To the medical community, we urge all our colleagues to resist the move toward authoritarianism over our work"
I'm reminded of this statement, from the AMA Code of Medical Ethics 2002-03: "In exceptional circumstances of unjust laws, ethical responsibilities should supersede legal obligations."
Statement from Te Ohu Rata o Aotearoa (Māori Medical Practitioners Association) expressing its condemnation of the banning of puberty blockers by the NZ government.
Yeah they are superb. I got the previous model the day before we went into the first lockdown in 2020, and it was money very well spent.
Politicisation of medical care. Puberty blockers: why politicians overriding doctors sets a dangerous precedent www.rnz.co.nz/news/on-the-...
This government has done some absolutely horrendous shit but this - denial of essential health care for trans youth - is unforgivable. Pure evil.
1. In the wake on Mamdani’s win, we’ll see a lot more far right anti-urban sentiment. Here’s a thread on its roots and evolution.
The idea that the city is evil and corrupt, and the countryside innocent and pure, goes back a long way: to Theocritus in Alexandria, and to the Old Testament. 🧵
A black and white aerial photo showing modern-day Parihaka as small white buildings in the foreground, surrounded by garmland and some patches of bush and trees, with Taranaki Maunga in the background. Photo: Puke Ariki.
Tomorrow is the Fifth of November – but let’s forget Guy Fawkes and his actions against an arrogant Protestant king and instead look to our own history: the unlawful attack on Parihaka and, by extension, Māori sovereignty.

our govt wants to spend 327 times more on a single road ($18b) than they are currently spending yearly on all of basic science in new zealand ($55m) #nzpol
Instead of spending billions on fancy new roads, the government should actually consider REMOVING some of the big roads from our cities as well as building more bike lanes and public transport.

NZ public health, GP and paediatric folk have been warning about this longer than the WHO…
World Health Organisation warned New Zealand of measles immunisation gap www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...
It's a kick in the guts for all the staff who have put their heart and soul into developing the course - particularly kaimahi Māori - and a betrayal of the partnership with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei that underpinned core elements of the course.
Our university has decided to pander to racists rather than living by its stated values. The new Waipapa Taumata Rau course, which was designed as a core foundation for Tiriti-based learning, will now be optional for most students. This is a shameful and spineless decision.
Mind blowing.
The Luxon Government has confirmed it will rewrite NZ’s once bipartisan climate change law to dilute methane reduction targets and PERMANENTLY exclude dairy from the Emissions Trading Scheme – a move Greenpeace says amounts to full-blown climate denial.

“In this 50th anniversary year, the Tribunal and Te Tiriti are under a sustained attack from perhaps the most anti-Tiriti government that we’ve seen since the Tribunal was established.” — Carwyn Jones.
That was a pretty cool moment. One of many during that concert. In fact I loved every minute of it. Septuagenarians rock!
Finally on the move now…
