For @thecjn.bsky.social, my review of Matti Friedman's latest book "Out of the Sky" in which he unpacks the myth and reality of Hannah Senesh’s life, asking why she and other young people who had escaped Nazi Europe would return for an ill-fated mission

In the last two years, mainstream book publishers have barely released any Jewish fiction—and the only Jewish fiction that does make it through tends to be anti-Zionist or hyper-progressive. Meg Keene doesn’t see the trends reversing any time soon. What is the future of Jewish literature?

Lola Rykiel's shop has “satin pillows with crystal-embroidered words and phrases like ‘Blonde,’ ‘Spiritual Bimbo’ and ‘I Love Men But They Don’t Make Me Happy,’” the last of these a fascinating sign of how the French are and are not adopting North American attitudes about straight womanhood.

Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, 21, timed his plot to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attacks in Israel, with the explicit goal of killing as many Jews as possible.

“New york is perfect to target jews” he wrote, because it has the “largest Jewish population in america.”

“One of the shots hit the door to the kitchen at the very back of the restaurant. That’s how far it went, and it penetrated through that door. You saw the glass everywhere and damage throughout the restaurant,” said MPP Michelle Cooper.

Having failed to deflect outside criticism of what are, per Adult Braces, some textbook bad-husband behaviours via claims that demanding monogamy was racist and heteronormative, having failed to convince anyone that his identifying as non-binary now and using he/they pronouns meant he couldn’t possibly exemplify what 2010s feminist sites like the ones West wrote for would call toxic masculinity, Oluo landed the only place left for someone backed into a corner: pivot to Palestine.

McGill's president said the amendments are “inoperative and non-receivable,” arguing they fall outside the LSA’s authority and conflict with university policy. “The effects here are antisemitic,” Saini wrote, adding that in cases of discrimination, “impact—not intent—governs.”

I get that there are those who imagine world peace instantaneously ensues the moment there are no Jews remaining, but I happen to think such people are evil as well as deluded.

Rationally, I know I’m not responsible for things outside my control or indeed my knowledge area, which tilts more to 1990s sitcom trivia than geopolitical ethics or strategy. But hearing constantly that I ‘did’ various world events, on account of being Jewish and not atoning for this, makes me wonder if maybe everyone else knows something I don’t.

It was very thoughtless of me, personally, to start bombing Iran.

Feminism has made strides, as alas has antisemitism, making 2026 a strange fit for a creator whose shtick is ‘nebbishy Jewish man gets all the babes.’ That, and Allen stood accused of molesting his daughter Dylan. Accused, not convicted. Due to the accusation, paired with undisputed facts about Allen’s life and work (he’s married to Soon-Yi Previn, the much-younger daughter of his long-term romantic partner Mia Farrow; his middle-aged character dates a 17-year-old girl in Manhattan, etc.), he became a Bad Man of #MeToo. Publicity-wise, he’s relegated more to the heterodox fringes than he’d be, were that not the case.

And then there’s Epstein.

Her books have “shaped generations of kids, been subject to book bans, and been covered extensively by the press.” 🧵
