So many colours around that goldfinch! And... on the goldfinch too!
A male stonechat with a black head, white neck patch, and warm orange chest perches upright on a curved stem of bright yellow rapeseed flowers. It stands above a dense, softly blurred field of matching yellow blooms, creating a glowing golden backdrop. The bird faces slightly to the right, sharply in focus against the hazy sea of colour.
Good morning. Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Petals&Perches any bird with flowers in capture. The alt is #WhatTheFlock any capture of three or more of the same bird. Good luck. #birds #photography #ECK

My photo shows a Hellenistic era hemispherical mosaic glass bowl viewed from above. The glass has a floral pattern made up of tiny, many-petalled blue, white, and yellowy-green flowers against a dark purple background (looks black in my photo). The bowl has an alternating diagonal-striped black and white glass rim. The bowl has been reconstructed from fragments and the plain light blue areas are where missing glass fragments have been replaced during reconstruction. It measures 13.2 cm in diameter and 7.5 cm in height. It was made in the eastern Mediterranean about 200-100 BC.
This Hellenistic mosaic glass bowl looks so modern, yet it was made over 2,000 years ago!
Ancient glassmakers created the tiny flower pattern using a technique now known as ‘millefiori’ (thousand flowers). A timeless design still made by glassmakers today!

An American Dipper in the river with water flowing over top. The stream is clear and smooth with feather detail visible through the water.

For todays #BirdOfTheDay #ABCD I'd like to share this adorable scene of a family of Coot/Meerkoet that I took yesterday:
I feel like it won't take long for this "AI" era to be a deep cultural embarassment.
"They kept saying their AI had become sentient every 6 months and people just sorta kept believing it even though it was never true."
THE DUCKLING LOAD! OVER 20 WOOD DUCKLINGS WITH A SINGLE MOTHER!!!!
After 6 days baby bird free, today more than made up for it!
I don't know if it's a bluesky record, but it's a Brett Banditelli record! 🪶 🐣

For @javajanegallery.co.uk's #SmallBirdSaturday we have a male Rufous Hummingbird, the rightful and shiny Lord Protector Of The Feeders Behind The Richmond Nature House. He arrived about a month ago, and has since chased off another Rufous pretender to claim his title.

Horned Furby with a knife sez: Be A Problem Money Can't Solve
A vertical tubular birdfeeder full of mixed seeds is being visited by five small birds with grey breast, white throat and rusty brown cap on its head (chipping sparrows). All the available spaces at the feeder are occupied.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme of #FeederFriends (birds you might see at your feeder) reminds of that time *all* the Chipping Sparrows came over for dinner. (There's one on the perch in the back, too.)

No one has ever been more surprised supporting the face eating leopard party resulted in their face being eaten.

The only one I know in that list is Hades II. If you've played the first game (which is awesome) this is an even more awesome sequel
Seriously! "Deceptive lizard" vs "Thunder lizard" there is no competition
Here's a young Wood Stork for today's #BirdOfTheDay theme of #HeadShots. He was with 2 other young Wood Storks. They appear to have reached the age of independence but have not yet developed the scaly necks that mature adults have. #birds #nature #photography
