I want to believe in technology, I really want to. It's the thing that makes humans human and it can and has benefited our lives. I just wish it went a little slower to give us a chance at perhaps see where we are going (and ideally not give the same people that already had power even more.)

A portrait of a rusty red coyote with vibrant green eyes. He is snarling with bared teeth. The backdrop is a simple frame with some plat motifs. Under the portrait is the sign of Saturn, representing the coyote's name.

Owls Are Weird: Often-Overlooked Traits of Nature's Stealthiest Birds, Featuring the Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus)

Transforming Talons!

Great Horned Owls are deadly predators thanks in part to the crushing power of their talons, capable of exerting around 200 to 500 pounds of force per square inch.
Their outside toe (3) is opposable, so they can switch from a zygodactyl (two in front, two behind) hunting posture to an anisodactyl (three in front, two behind) perching posture at will.

Fun Fact!

The ear-like feather tufts on this owl's head are called plumicorns. Surprisingly, they aren't the owl's ears! Real owl ears are on the sides of their head, similar to human ears. Facial disks around their eyes help to funnel sound in the right direction.

What's the secret to their silent flight?

Special serrated feathers on the leading edge and soft frayed feathers on the trailing edge help break up the "whoosh" of the wind.

Tube-Shaped Eyes?

Owl eyes are tubular, supported on the inside by bones called sclerotic rings.
Their eyes are huge relative to their skulls, occupying around 70% of the skull's volume.
This shape and size prevents owls from being able to turn their eyes in their sockets.
Instead, owls have fourteen vertebrae (twice as many as humans) to allow them to turn their heads up to 270 degrees!

This local Wolfdog joined an Olympic ski event and triggered the finish-line camera. This is Nazgul. He snuck into a cross-country skiing sprint this morning and raced the homestretch with some competitors before being escorted home. 14/10 someone get him a medal

Furry friends wearing Fair Isle sweaters sit at a table about to eat various pies. A red fox, badger, otter, and chipmunk. They're inside a cute cottage dining room, window with sunset outside.

Over the years, the wild Glaze Lilies, too, dwindled till at last they were no more."
