A book titled ‘Xolo’ by Donna Barbra Higuera, illustrated by Mariana Ruiz Johnson, is placed against a window.
The cover features an illustration of a mythical Aztec God ‘Xolotl’ in a graphic, hand drawn style with bold, solid colors, black line art and simple graphic elements on a dark background.
A spread from the graphic novel ‘Xolo’ that shows the twin Aztec gods- Xolotl on the left page against a black background showing his life in the dark underworld (bats, thorny plants, mushrooms, stars and a frog) while on the right, his brother Quetzalcoatl being glorified on earth against a bright red background (the sun, birds, flowers, fish, a fox and a flowing river).
I finally read Xolo, (by Donna Barbra Higuera), a wonderfully illustrated (by Mariana Ruiz Johnson) graphic novel for young kids.
Really enjoyed this retelling of Aztec mythology around twin brothers who’re gods. 1/3
