Glad to hear it Charlie!

A dead shrub at lower left carries the view into the middle ground, here featuring a pair of light-toned eroded mudstone mounds. Above and behind rises a striking flattop pinnacle in the distance, whose left flank supports additional eroded cliff faces. Junipers and grasses are seen at middle left, with a nearly featureless sky above. Canon 5DII, f/11, 50mm
Even when the #background is your primary focus, you need a strong foreground to draw the viewer into the image.
Undisclosed badlands locality, NW New Mexico.

When the #background is not the focus, you may want it out of focus.

Thanks for your kind comment, AnnaLois.
Close-up vertical of a sequoia tree at eye level, focused on the sprigs of pale green lichen in a channel running from top to bottom on the tree's expressive bark. Out of focus at left we can see a fallen tree on the forest floor and some saplings, with larger trees in the vague background against a featureless sky.

A dry wash in desert-like terrain forms the center of the image, with scattered low, green shrubbery on either side of the central wash. To the left of the wash, a steep wall of mixed rock and mudstone rises skyward, with a series of high eroded bluffs appearing on the horizon at right. The sky is faultlessly blue.
A promising approach

Um - could I just have it on an english muffin instead?
You were just a dozen miles or so west. (As the crow flies.)
Under the radar and very remote. Just as I like it.
For sure Liem!
Surreal looking landscape with a trio of towering hoodoos, each topped by a dark ironstone cap. The formation at middle right appears to support a micro-garden on its top, with a small brushy plant thriving there.

Thanks Luis.
Detail of wall and window structure on the outside of a ruined ancient structure, with a dizzying array of different sized/shaped stone blocks cemented together and a lintel atop the open entrance to a door or window.

Astonishing. Brilliant.
So great to hear, besmart! Thanks.
View through a low window in a crumbling Native American ruin off the beaten path. Above the window is a blue sky streaked with clouds and one prominent contrail. A bush or small tree can be seen peeking out from under the arch-like sandstone roof overhead.

Ah, thank you Juliet!
An ancient ruined structure sits on a thin shelf of rock in a cave-like alcove. A vertical cliff face stretches below, precluding any obvious access to the structure. An overhanging roof of rock looms above, and a slab of angles stone is lit by the sun at left.

Obviously, his ballot should be thrown out.
A ruin built of stone blocks sits atop a boulder whose front surface has been cracked, with debris strewn below. The ruin itself is streaked with white bird droppings. Above and behind we can see stone walls looming overhead, partially in shadow.

Certainly the most diverse in terms of accessibility.
Yes - but it's still standing.
A thriving, healthy juniper tree grows directly out of a dome-shaped rocky outcrop. Its dark green needles stand in contrast to the deep blue sky behind, streaked with wispy clouds.

Lovely complex stratigraphy. Why all the hard hats, I wonder?
The twisted remnant of a dead juniper tree stands sentinel atop a boulder-strewn outcrop on a vast sandstone plain under a deep blue sky with wispy clouds. Another dead tree can be seen in the middle distance at right.

And done quite unobtrusively in this instance.
