What does it mean to be a cis ally to trans people, especially as a United fan? ⚽️🏳️⚧️
For Football v Transphobia's Week of Action, our member Katie has written a brilliant piece on exactly that.

Rainbow Devils welcome the statement from Manchester United, as well as the apology and contrition from Jack Fletcher. Homophobic language has no place in football or society regardless of intention or connotation. Words matter and words hurt. Football must be for everyone to feel safe and included. Education, meaningful consequences and a genuine commitment to learning from mistakes are key to ensuring incidents like this become an opportunity for growth and change. Parents, teachers, football clubs, all of us have a responsibility to young people to teach them right and wrong in regards to all forms of discrimination. We hope Jack learns from this and grows as a person and a player. His immediate regret and guilty plea suggests that he will.

Bruno Fernandes gets a goal and assist over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, achieving his 100th assist as a Manchester United player. Magic! 🔴⚪️⚫️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️

On the international stage, Rogers earned over a dozen caps for the United States and was part of the squad that won the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
His decision to live authentically & to come back stronger remains a powerful moment in the fight for LGBTQ+ visibility in sport. 5/5
Months later, he returned to the professional game, debuting for LA Galaxy and becoming the first openly gay male athlete to compete in MLS and one of the first in a top-tier North American professional league. 4/5
In February 2013, at just 25, Rogers publicly came out as gay, stepping away from the game and speaking openly about the pressure of hiding his sexuality in men’s football. 3/5
Rogers began his professional career with Columbus Crew, lifting the MLS Cup in 2008. He later played in England for Leeds United before returning to the United States to join LA Galaxy, where he won another MLS Cup in 2014 & successfully transitioned from winger to leftback. 2/5
For LGBTQ+ History Month, Rainbow Devils proudly celebrates Robbie Rogers, a pioneer whose courage helped change men’s football. 1/5 ⚽️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️

Very sad that co-founder of Terrence Higgins Trust has died at 71. Martyn Butler OBE helped set up THT after close friend Terrence Higgins became the first named UK person to die of an Aids-related illness. He supported THT for decades & fought tirelessly for LGBT rights🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️💔
Massive three points for United away at Everton. Player of the Match - Senne Lammens with an excellent goalkeeping display. 🔴⚪️⚫️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️

Rapinoe retired in 2023 as one of the defining athletes of her generation. Her legacy isn’t just trophies and titles, it’s visibility, advocacy, and using football as a force for change. 7/7
In 2022, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden, recognising not only her sporting brilliance but her courage and advocacy. 6/7
In 2016, she knelt during the national anthem in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, standing firmly against racial injustice. She has consistently defended LGBTQ+ rights, including trans inclusion in sport, challenging attempts to weaponise women’s football. 5/7
She was one of the plaintiffs in the USWNT’s landmark equal pay lawsuit against the United States Soccer Federation. The historic $24 million settlement ensured equal pay for men’s and women’s national teams, a moment Rapinoe has called her greatest achievement “by a mile.” 4/7
But Rapinoe’s impact reaches far beyond the pitch. She publicly came out as gay in 2012 and has been an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, as well as gender equality, and equal pay in women’s sport. 3/7
