Why the AI backlash has turned violent And why it's probably only going to get worse from here.

Last week, a 20 year-old man threw a molotov cocktail at Sam Altman's mansion; two days later, people fired a gun at it. Earlier that week, someone fired gunshots into an city councilman's house who approved a data center.

Why the AI backlash has turned violent:

And the visit *has* to be in person. Yes, even if you're mostly housebound. Yes, even if the only purpose of the visit is to show up and say "yes, I still need this med"

It doesn't matter whether you are on twitter or bluesky, you will always see long threads of men arguing w/ each other about whether economic feelings are real without seeing anyone mention childcare costs, rising unsheltered homelessness or the fact that uncountable numbers of families live in cars

Refusing to accept big tech's AI-poisoned 'future of journalism' Humans, however flawed, are

New — I wrote about how journalists proudly using AI to help them write their stories obscures the deeply human process that makes journalism a societal necessity, and one that feeds the soul of those who create it.

Hope you’ll give it a read. I promise I wrote the whole thing.

It is always the case that any radical action by workers to resist the power of capital is "violence" but the constant suffering of poverty, absence of healthcare, hunger, surveillance, wage theft and the rest of it, well... that doesn't really count as "violence."

None are especially major, but there were a few horror movies that addressed it: Host, Sick, and The Harbinger (imo, the best pandemic movie, it really stuck with me)

You can't separate anti-immigrant and anti-trans politics from what is happening with Iran. When MAGA picked transphobia and nativism as its organizing principle, it selected for the capacity to treat entire categories of people as civilizational threats whose elimination is an act of self-defense.

I think often of a New York Times photo of a little Iraqi girl tending to her parakeets in a bombed house, probably from 20 years ago now. I will think of this man and his sweet dog often now too. People just want to love what they love, care for their little beings, and instead we do this to them

I did not expect for Reddit to be the place where I — for the first time — found good, thorough information about what my illness is, how it works, and what steps I can actually take to avoid getting worse. But that's what happened 🤷‍♀️

I wish people weren't using gen AI this way, but I understand why

ICE does not belong at JFK, LGA, or anywhere in our airports. ICE does not belong on our streets. ICE does not belong in Harlem, or Inwood, or anywhere else in our city, our state, or beyond. The only place ICE belongs is in our history books — abolished & relegated to the past.

What Happened to the Black Women Trump Purged From the Federal Work Force? Over a year later, they are struggling to find financial footing and make sense of the racist backlash that displaced them.

"Black women ...comprise 6 percent of the overall U.S. labor force and 12 percent of the federal labor force. But of the almost 300,000 federal jobs slashed in 2025, Black women were a stunning 33 percent of those cuts."

What women on the left already knew before the files came out is that men can imagine a world of class consciousness (Chomsky), a universe more expansive than ever before known (Hawking), a world where you can live forever (Attia) but not a world where women are fully human.

“I don’t want to wear a mask all the time” Alright. Would you please wear it sometimes? Sometimes > never. Like just keep one in your bag, and put it on when you’re in an extra crowded place maybe?

A classic anti-masker tactic is to claim that if you don't wear a mask 100% of the time, it isn't worth it. Untrue. Every single time you wear a mask, you reduce the chances for viruses to spread. Wearing a mask always improves public health, even if you only do it occasionally.

To all of these men in particular who cannot understand why sexual assault that occurred decades ago still matters.

I was sexually assaulted twenty six years ago.

I am closer to fifty than forty.

I still will not get on elevator with men if I am by myself.

That's why it matters.
