Menschliche Landnutzung in Bergregionen erhöht Risiko tödlicher Erdrutsche Einkommensschwache Länder deutlich stärker betroffen

Die meisten tödlichen Erdrutsche passieren in vom Menschen veränderten Umgebungen. 😯
Veränderungen der Landnutzung haben einen größeren Einfluss auf die Zahl der Todesopfer durch Erdrutsche, als physikalische Faktoren wie Topografie und Niederschlag – v. a. in Ländern mit niedrigerem Einkommen.

Erwin Finlay-Freundlich - Wikipedia

The Einsteinturm (Einstein Tower) is one of many historical buildings and an outstanding piece of architecture. Read more on Erwin Finlay-Freundlich here:

Finlay-Freundlich carried the double name for his mother Elizabeth Finlayson. He was a friend of Albert Einstein and, as Einstein, Jewish. In 1933, the German Nazi government forced him to leave office and he had to flee with his family. Unlike Einstein, he returned to Germany. 2/3

It‘s the „Café Freundlich“ which translates Café Friendly but the name has a totally different meaning. The building was named „Villa Freundlich“ (Freundlich Mansion) after Erwin Finlay-Freundlich. He was the first director of the Einstein Tower, a solar observatory on our campus. Erwin 1/3

We were really pleased to find the Ketzin drill cores. At the Pilot Site Ketzin, @gfz.bsky.social conducted a CO2 storage demonstrator, the only #CCS project so far on land in Germany. www.co2ketzin.de/en/home/ documents all steps, including the close dialogue with society and politics 3/3

Two persons stand in front of shelfs of some meters high that contain rectangular boxes of wood and plastic. In these boxes are the drill cores, but these are not visible. Left stands Ralph Watzel, the president of BGR. Right stands Susanne Buiter, the scientific director of GFZ. Both are smiling.

With a delegation of @gfz.bsky.social we visited BGR last week, the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources, for our yearly in-depth exchange on geoscience themes. One highlight of many was the visit to the collection in Berlin Spandau: rocks, minerals, fossils and drill cores! 1/3
