Point of no returns: researchers are crossing a threshold in the fight for funding With so little money to go round, the costs of competing for grants can exceed what the grants are worth. When that happens, nobody wins.

Webropol Survey Survey Powered by Webropol

🌎 Experiments are central to understanding community dynamics, yet their use is declining.
We're trying to understand why.
If you work in community ecology, we'd really appreciate your input in a quick survey (<5 mins).

We enjoyed ending #OIKOSFin2025 with an academic writing workshop by Marc Abernathy and Carlos Aguilar! And if you’re now wondering how to get your newly improved paper published, did you know that the NSO can give publishing workshops and insights on our very own journals? 🤩

Jenna Rönttinen presenting her poster at #OIKOSFin2025 !

Her work focused on the effects of landscape clearcut accumulation over time on Finnish breeding birds. 🐦 One of main results is that old-growth forest specialists are not affected by short term but 📉 due to 20 yrs accumulation!

Stay tuned 🦉

🚨New paper🚨

We studied how traits & eco. specialisations of forest birds species 🦉 have affected their abundances and distributions in Europe over the last 40 yrs.

Among others, we found a significant 📉 of boreal species, especially the ones related to mixed forests. 🌳🌲
