Alla prima Two 5x7 oil on Stonehenge aluminum panel. The same still life setup for both Same approximate time to paint in each session. Two gourds with a feather situated at an angle between them on a white fabric with a dark background. Light from the left pollutes the painting on the left a bit with glare. The painting surface isn’t canvas but more of a paper which sucks up the paint. Once the paint builds up, it’s fine but in the block-in, regardless of style or approach, I had to put down a good amount of paint. One had more turp in it as a medium to free up the brush while the other was a loaded brush with no medium. I wanted to see if I could step outside my typical workflow and see what the results would be. I have the Atelier approach pretty well ingrained, so I probably will always have that present, but if I can push those boundaries, I’m hoping to free up some fun paintings.

Same setup approached differently. One is from Monday am and the other this afternoon. Trying to force myself to expand my ‘style’. I like both but for different reasons.
