Reset is disabled at a hardware level when running from the internal drive, this is by Sony's design. You cannot reset with the button on the console either.
When running from the internal drive, the console can sometimes require a long press of the power button to shut down.
I update it manually as the project uses a pre-release and can often be unstable, as you can see lol. If you want a stable experience, use NHDDL.
I'll update the version included with the project when/if the bug is fixed. You can manually update OPL by replacing the file in __system/launcher
I've had another report. It can happen when launched from anywhere, not just PSBBN. The issue is intermittent, sometimes OPL hangs when reading its config.
If you have the issue again, hold START while launching OPL to skip reading the config. If the issue persists, open an issue on the OPL GitHub.
Oh, the problem only occurs when launching OPL from the Navigator Menu. Have you tried launching OPL from the PSBBN Game Collection? Does that also work?
Remove all PS2 memory card and USB drives from your console and try launching OPL. If that works, it's an old OPL config file causing the issue, delete it.

If you have version 2.10, you can upgrade to the latest version. If you have a version older than that, you need to do a fresh install. You can find out what version you're on by booting into PSBBN, pressing SELECT, then selecting "About PlayStation BB Navigator".

If you go through network setup & select "Configure Router" it launches X11 & the NetFront web browser. It can be hacked to launch a full Linux desktop. Two drawbacks:
- Performance is worse than running Linux directly
- must be launched from the network settings
Fun fact: The "Internet Channel" icon was made by Sony but unused. Other unused icons like "Utility Channel" and "Other PC" hint they might’ve planned a full Linux desktop inside PSBBN.

Sony had online updates, it's feasible and has been partially reverse engineered, so maybe. Although I don't see the core PSBBN system files getting any major updates in the future. Now is a good time to take the plunge.
There are some new features coming but they will be updates to the scripts.

So my project of late; has been setting up PlayStation Broadband Navigator! It was Sony's vision (c. 2002) for what the future of the PlayStation 2 could be like, but it sadly only ever launched in Japan.
Thanks to @cosmicscale.bsky.social it's now translated to English, and it's great on my PS2! ✨
Early 2002, Sony held an event for shareholders detailing their plans for PSBBN. It had a different look and included features that never came to fruition:
- Streaming movies with RealPlayer
- Instant messaging, voice calls & video mail
- Recording TV
